  • Foggy London

    November 10, 2021 in England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

London looked beautiful this evening with the buildings illuminating the mist on Threadneedle Street. This amazing city always has something new to see every time you come.

  • Post Covid Travel

    November 10, 2021 in England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Everyone is now wearing masks but the transport system is working well and we have had a really easy journey today. Albeit that we seem to arrive everywhere out of breath and with 2 minutes to spare.

  • Off to the airport

    November 11, 2021 in England ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Breakfast sorted and now off to the airport. It is our first post covid flight so not sure what to expect but so excited about our trip to Barcelona.

  • Hopping on the metro

    November 11, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Jumped on the L9 to Collblanc and then the L5 into the city centre. €21 (£18) for 3 days unlimited travel. There is perfect 4G on the Metro and they are really clean and comfortable

  • St Joseph Merkat

    November 12, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

The St Joseph market in La Rambla is a sight to behold. Built in 1840, there has actually been a market here since the 1200’s. They added the roof in 1914 and you can buy every type of food here. Whether it be dinner or a snack on the go this market is well worth a visit.Read more

  • Lunch Time

    November 12, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We found a lovely spot for lunch even though at 12:30 they are only serving the breakfast menu. I guess they just start a bit later here. Good choice of food for all diets sat at outdoor tables in the sun. There are smoothies, chai teas and homemade lemonade too.Read more

  • Arc de Triomf

    November 12, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Another stunning piece of architecture in Barcelona. There always seems to be a stage in the way when we come here but it is still impressive

  • There’s always hills

    November 12, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

A short stroll up to the Castell de Montjuïc. Well, when I say short, it’s not for the faint hearted. The funicular railway takes you about halfway and then you can either take the cable car ( if you don’t have Matt with you) or the 150 bus (if you don’t have Charlotte with you). Otherwise there are steps, lots of steps but the view is incredible.Read more

  • An evening in the Gothic Quarter

    November 12, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We took a guided tour around the Gothic Quarter led by Paulo that we had booked as an AirBnB experience. We learnt a lot about the influences of the Romans, the Moors, Spanish Kings and evil tyrant European leaders. We also learned about Catalonian food, drink and customs and about some very tenuous links to St George and Star Wars.Read more

  • The tiny church…..

    November 13, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Just kidding! Spent a fabulous 2 hours in the Sagrada Familia Basilica today. We had a guided tour which was fantastic and incredibly informative and then were free to wander at will. Everything about this building is truly magical from the facades to the forest and the breathtaking light inside. We even found a turtle for Charlotte. This building will change your life. Hop a plane and visit at least once.Read more

  • La Monumental

    November 13, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

This fantastic and huge building was the last bull fighting ring to operate in Barcelona. Bull fighting was made illegal in Spain in 2011 and this building became an outdoor venue for sports and music.Read more

  • Placa de Sant Felip Neri

    November 13, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

We had a quick visit to this somber place last night and decided to return today.
Before the 2nd world war, King Franco was approached by Hitler and Mussolini to be allied and so that they could use Spain as a test point for some new weapons.
On the 30th January 1938 a bomb was dropped on a small square in Barcelona. To make matters worse the square had a school in it and the children were out playing. 42 people lost their lives including children. Such a sad and awful place which still shows the damage from the bomb and the subsequent re-build.

  • Palau del Lloctinent

    November 13, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

In 1391 the cities Jewish quarter was attacked. 4000 inhabitants were killed with survivors being forced to become Christians or to flee.
In the mid 16th century Charles the 5th ordered that due to a stone shortage instead of removing old or unwanted buildings, they were to go to the Jewish cemetery at Montjuïc and remove the headstones from the Jewish graves.
To date, 60 have been located in various parts of the city with 10 in this one wall.
The Spanish government apologised to the Jewish Community but this is a sad sight and a somber place.
