  • Sunshine coast

Making use of Dad’s wonderful shed to do the final finishing touches to the car and the setup (sadly no Dad around as he was traipsing through Asia at the time) and exploring different climbing spots around the sunshine coast with my old pal Paul. That children’s python came slithering by when I was doing a bush wee 👀もっと詳しく

  • Mackay/Eungella

Mackay wasn’t really much to rave home about, except their exquisite orchid garden! However Eungella, about an hour or so inland, was incredibly beautiful. Lush rainforest teeming with bird life, turtles and platypus! And the waterfalls and bushwalks at Finch Hatton Gorge were incredibly beautiful. I would recommend Eungella to anyone passing that way on the coast❤️もっと詳しく

  • Airlie beach

We camped on Whitsunday island and Hook Island for 3 days, with not much to do besides snorkel, read and snooze in the hammock and try to escape the extreme humidity 😅 seeing such vibrant coral off Cairn Beach on Whitsunday island was a real treat, and we met a guy who had walked/cycled/scootered and trolleyed all the way from Perth!

  • Hinchinbrook Island

Pete and I hiked the Thorsborne trail on Hinchbrook Island over 4 days and it was stunning. Steep mountain peaks that drop straight into pristine beaches and coral create almost a Jurassic vibe. We got eaten alive by mosquitoes and the sweltering humidity but the numerous waterfalls and the gorgeous landscape were our saviours.

  • Cairns for diving

It was quite unfortunate that Pete’s GoPro failed whilst we were out on our 3 day diving trip from Cairns but it meant we were able to soak up the incredible marine world without worrying about capturing it properly. Turtles, stingrays, reef sharks, countless fish and I caught a glimpse of the moray eel, and we met the nicest people on board! The video was from our friends footage of seeing the moray. Despite the boat ride out and back being some of the roughest boat time we’ve ever spent (Pete chucked up his breaky on the side of the boat🤮🤣), it was so worth it!

  • Atherton tablelands pt2: Yungburra

After our diving trip in Cairns, we headed back to the tablelands to do a week’s WWOOFing in Yungaburra. We stayed with the sweetest old couple on this beautiful 5 acre bush block out of town and had the loveliest time getting to know them, helping them rebuild an outdoor garden set of stairs and doing bushwalks around the area. I stupidly forgot to get a photo with them. The husband, Anthony, was kind enough to take to teach us the early steps of welding and he took us out to an old quarry and rock art site near his area for a day trip. We were sad to leave those guys as we had such an amazing time with them.

We then headed back to Cairns to catch up with friends and see one of their live shows at a local gig - which was awesome! Cairns had some incredible talent. We managed to run into some pals from down south which was such a treat 😆
We also managed to catch the local fire-twirling and live drumming circle that happens once a month. About 100+ people gather and watch countless fire performers of all levels get up and perform to the live drumming.

  • Daintree

More lush tropical rainforests up here, although sadly we found that most parts of the area could not be accessed without paying a bunch of money to tourism companies who controlled access. We did love spotting this big Amethystine python and coaxing it off the road. We also loved our $30 Coopers Creek croc cruise where we were able to spot these females. Our first croc sighting on the trip! Can you see the hidden croc in the 3rd photo???

  • Cooktown

Beloved old Cooktown! We had such a nice time exploring this quirky little town, we walked around the botanic gardens, walked up Mount Cook and out to the lookout to the neighbouring bays. We met up with one of Petes old family friends and enjoyed a morning sunrise from the lighthouse. This old fella also cooked us the most delicious prawn pasta for dinner!

We also got word from a local ranger on where we could go to spot a local croc. After an unsuccessful initial trip, we were lucky the second time round to see part of the big bull in the water! It was quite a tease though, we waited for half an hour but unfortunately he must have been feeling a bit shy.

  • Chillagoe

Due to many of the great national parks on the way to Cape York still being closed due to the wet season, we decided to head south to the red centre. First stop is Chillagoe with its fascinating caves and rock formations. And also our first popped Tyre! A very kind truck driver pulled over and offered to help us, offering us fresh, organic mandarins as well. We’ve met the nicest people so far on this trip ❤️もっと詳しく

  • Fossilbrook

Very remote-feel driving toward Mount Surprise, without phone signal or a GPS to find out how to get there! We eventually found our way.. We are starting to get into the Red Dirt now! But we also found some beautiful bush camps, complete with a lovely sunset, where there was no one else around, these type of campsites have been some of our favourite parts of the whole trip.

  • Normonton

Normanton had a beautiful lagoon that we got to spot heaps of birdlife from (including magpie geese and Brolga’s) and then we got bogged 😆 all part of the journey. We got very muddy and thankfully the Maxtrax helped us get out in about 25 minutes. We had another beautiful sunset on our way toward Camooweal Billabong near Mount Isa.

  • Karlu Karlu (Devil’s Marbles)

We officially crossed into the NT! We made our way down the Three Ways toward Karlu Karlu, to see the beautiful and distinctive rocks that are sacred to the Traditional Owners of 4 different clan groups. The boulders are not to be photographed in certain areas due to their significance, which we were more than happy to respect as we were grateful to be able to see them from so close and for both sunset and sunrise❤️もっと詳しく
