Vila Nova de Milfontes – Porto Covo

Gestern fuhren wir von Porto Covo nach Vila Nova de Milfontes und besuchten den Campingplatz, wo Freunde stehen. Interessanterweise ist Milfontes durch einige YouTuber recht bekannt geworden, doch für mich bleibt Porto Covo der ansprechendere Ort. Während Milfontes zweifellos größer und lebhafter ist, hinterlässt Porto Covo auf mich einen hübscheren und gepflegteren Eindruck. Die Häuser dort sind frisch getüncht, die Straßen sauber, und der kleine Ort scheint voller lokalem Leben zu sein. Porto Covo bietet zahlreiche charmante, kleine Restaurants, die zum Verweilen einladen, und die Atmosphäre ist einfach besonders.

Porto Covo, ursprünglich ein kleines Fischerdorf, erlebte im 18. Jahrhundert durch die Förderung des Grafen von Resende einen Aufschwung. Die enge Verbindung zum Meer ist nach wie vor spürbar. Die raue Atlantikküste, geprägt von schroffen Klippen und Naturparks, verleiht dem Ort einen besonderen Charme und lädt zu Küstenspaziergängen ein.

In Milfontes merke ich den touristischen Einfluss stärker, und mir scheint der Ort weniger gepflegt. Vila Nova de Milfontes liegt an der Mündung des Flusses Mira und ist geographisch attraktiver für Wassersportler, mit Stränden und einer Sommeratmosphäre, die Touristen anzieht. Ursprünglich als Verteidigung gegen Piraten im 16. Jahrhundert gegründet, erinnert die Festung São Clemente an die bewegte Geschichte des Ortes. Heute prägt der Tourismus den Ort, der vor allem im Sommer von Badeurlaubern belebt ist.

Der Campingplatz von Milfontes liegt ebenfalls direkt im Ort und ist gut ausgestattet, was sehr praktisch ist. Ich finde ihn angenehmer als den in Porto Covo, der durch die vielen abwesenden Dauercamper eher verlassen wirkte. Die Umgebung hier bietet viele hübsche Wege, ideal für Spaziergänge mit Bryan. Diese scheinen gepflegt, und Bryan und ich haben die neuen Routen hier durchaus genossen, auch wenn keine Hinweise auf Naturschutzgebiete vorhanden sind.

Auf dieser Reise bin ich mit einigen technischen Hürden konfrontiert: die Kaffeemaschine war kaputt und machte keinen Kaffee, die Duschhalterung ist gebrochen, die Truma-Heizung brauchte eine Reparatur, und meine Thitronik-Alarmanlage verlangte ebenfalls nach Aufmerksamkeit. Zudem funktionierten die Hubstützen und der Fernseher nicht. Gestern und heute habe ich die Duschhalterung provisorisch repariert und hoffe, dass sie hält. Die Kaffeemaschine konnte ich ebenfalls wieder instand setzen und erfolgreich den Wasserstandsanzeiger korrigieren, der vorher stets „leer“ anzeigte, auch wenn der Tank voll war. Heute Morgen konnte ich nach der Reparatur wieder den Kaffee genießen.

Das Wetter ist mild: Gestern Nacht waren es 17°, und heute bleibt es warm, auch wenn die Sonne immer wieder hinter Wolken verschwindet. Innerhalb der nächsten Tage plane ich, weiter in die Algarve zu fahren und habe mir Stellplätze in Lagos, Fuseta und Figueira da Foz herausgesucht. Besonders freue ich mich auf Lagos, das mit seiner einzigartigen Küstenlandschaft, den beeindruckenden Felsformationen und einladenden Stränden ein reizvolles Ziel zu sein scheint.

Zum Abschluss steht heute noch ein „Check-up“ für Watson an. Er ist kürzlich fünf Monate alt geworden und wächst unglaublich schnell. Mal sehen, wie viel er inzwischen wiegt!

Hier, nous avons quitté Porto Covo pour Vila Nova de Milfontes et avons visité le camping où se trouvent des amis. Fait intéressant, Milfontes est devenu assez populaire grâce à certains YouTubers, mais pour moi, Porto Covo reste l’endroit le plus attrayant. Alors que Milfontes est sans aucun doute plus grand et plus animé, Porto Covo me laisse une impression plus charmante et bien entretenue. Les maisons y sont fraîchement blanchies, les rues propres, et le petit village semble débordant de vie locale. Porto Covo offre de nombreux petits restaurants charmants où il fait bon s’arrêter, et l’atmosphère y est vraiment spéciale.

Porto Covo, à l’origine un petit village de pêcheurs, a connu un essor au 18e siècle grâce au soutien du comte de Resende. Le lien étroit avec la mer est toujours perceptible. La côte atlantique sauvage, marquée par des falaises escarpées et des parcs naturels, confère au lieu un charme particulier et invite aux balades le long des falaises.

À Milfontes, je ressens davantage l’influence touristique, et le village me semble moins soigné. Vila Nova de Milfontes est situé à l’embouchure de la rivière Mira et est géographiquement plus attrayant pour les amateurs de sports nautiques, avec des plages et une ambiance estivale qui attirent les touristes. Fondée à l’origine au 16e siècle pour se défendre contre les pirates, la forteresse de São Clemente rappelle l’histoire mouvementée de la ville. Aujourd’hui, le tourisme est au cœur de la ville, qui s’anime surtout en été grâce aux vacanciers.

Le camping de Milfontes est également situé directement dans le village et est bien équipé, ce qui est très pratique. Je le trouve plus agréable que celui de Porto Covo, qui paraissait plutôt déserté par les campeurs permanents absents. Les environs offrent de jolis sentiers, parfaits pour les promenades avec Bryan. Ces sentiers semblent bien entretenus, et Bryan et moi avons apprécié ces nouveaux itinéraires, même s’il n’y a pas de panneaux indiquant des zones protégées.

Ce voyage est marqué par quelques difficultés techniques : la machine à café était en panne et ne faisait plus de café, le support de douche est cassé, le chauffage Truma a nécessité une réparation, et mon alarme Thitronik a également demandé de l’attention. De plus, les vérins et la télévision ne fonctionnaient pas. Hier et aujourd’hui, j’ai réparé provisoirement le support de douche et j’espère qu’il tiendra. J’ai également réussi à remettre en état la machine à café et à corriger l’indicateur de niveau d’eau, qui indiquait toujours “vide” même lorsque le réservoir était plein. Ce matin, j’ai pu savourer un café après la réparation.

Le temps est doux : la nuit dernière, il faisait 17°, et aujourd’hui, il reste chaud, bien que le soleil soit régulièrement caché par les nuages. Dans les prochains jours, je prévois de continuer vers l’Algarve et j’ai repéré des emplacements à Lagos, Fuseta et Figueira da Foz. Je suis particulièrement impatient de découvrir Lagos, avec son littoral unique, ses impressionnantes formations rocheuses et ses plages accueillantes, qui semble être une destination attrayante.

Pour finir, aujourd’hui, Watson aura droit à une “pesée”. Il a récemment eu cinq mois et grandit incroyablement vite. Voyons combien il pèse maintenant !

Vila Nova de Milfontes – Porto Covo

Yesterday, we traveled from Porto Covo to Vila Nova de Milfontes and visited the campsite where some friends are staying. Interestingly, Milfontes has become quite well-known thanks to some YouTubers, but for me, Porto Covo remains the more appealing place. While Milfontes is undeniably larger and livelier, Porto Covo leaves a much more charming and well-kept impression. The houses there are freshly whitewashed, the streets clean, and the small town seems full of local life. Porto Covo offers numerous charming little restaurants that invite you to linger, and the atmosphere is simply special.

Porto Covo, originally a small fishing village, experienced a revival in the 18th century thanks to the support of the Count of Resende. Its close connection to the sea is still noticeable. The rugged Atlantic coastline, shaped by steep cliffs and natural parks, gives the town a special charm and invites visitors to take coastal walks.

In Milfontes, I sense the tourist influence more strongly, and the town seems less well-kept to me. Vila Nova de Milfontes lies at the mouth of the Mira River and is geographically more attractive for water sports enthusiasts, with beaches and a summer atmosphere that draws tourists. Originally established in the 16th century as a defense against pirates, the São Clemente fortress is a reminder of the town’s vibrant history. Today, tourism is the main focus here, and the town comes alive in the summer with beachgoers.

The campsite in Milfontes is also located directly in town and is well-equipped, which is very convenient. I find it more pleasant than the one in Porto Covo, which felt rather deserted due to the many absent permanent campers. The surroundings here offer many pretty paths, ideal for walks with Bryan. These paths seem well-maintained, and Bryan and I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring these new routes, even though I haven’t seen any signs indicating protected areas.

On this trip, I’ve faced some technical hurdles: the coffee maker was broken and wouldn’t make coffee, the shower holder is broken, the Truma heater needed repair, and my Thitronik alarm system also required attention. Additionally, the leveling jacks and the TV weren’t working. Yesterday and today, I managed a temporary fix for the shower holder, and I hope it holds. I also managed to repair the coffee maker and successfully fix the water level indicator, which previously always showed “empty” even when the tank was full. This morning, I was able to enjoy coffee again after the repair.

The weather is mild: last night it was 17°C, and today it remains warm, though the sun repeatedly disappears behind clouds. Over the next few days, I plan to continue on to the Algarve, with camping spots in Lagos, Fuseta, and Figueira da Foz already picked out. I’m especially looking forward to Lagos, which, with its unique coastal landscape, impressive rock formations, and inviting beaches, seems like an attractive destination.
