    6 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

4 Island Tour with plankton (7.30 am to 9.00 pm) - the morning was a bit disappointing as I didn’t find and see the Caribbean beaches I was expecting - crowded beaches, party island, etc. But for lunch and afternoon we were taken to a wonderful small beach house with local food. We had the house to ourselves and spend the whole afternoon there - watching the sunset while a parrot 🦜 visited us. After it got dark, we were taken by boat to a lagoon and could observe the glowing plankton.Leia mais

    7 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

First day of school. I decided to take part in an intensive spanish course for one week. My goal is to learn some basics and lay the foundations to improve my Spanish during my trip through South America.
In the afternoon we went to the free walking tour of the neighborhood „Getsemani“ - an artists‘ quarter. We even saw monkeys and sloths 🦥 in the park nearby.

Day 4 in Cartagena began with a really really good cup of cold brew at „Libertario Coffee Roasters Cartagena“ before I went to school again. In the afternoon we had the opportunity to participate the cooking class at our school. We cooked Empanadas de pollo con salsa.

    Recipe:

    For the dough:

    - leek
    - chili
    - coriander

    - pepper
Cook and pull/shred the chicken into small pieces. Cook/fried the vegetables and mix all the ingredients.

Day 3 of Spanish classes and our brains are tired, winded and overwhelmed 😅 but we are making progress.
So my class mates and I spent the afternoon at the pool and the evening in a lovely bar:
Kiarra & Jack - from New York and Sydney, are currently on their honeymoon for 3 months after being separated for 18 months due to Covid and got married in Las Vegas after living together for 4 months. What a love story 💕
Holly & Mark - from UK, have given up everything in UK, travelling through South America and apply for a working visa in Australia.
Thomas - celebrated his 60th birthday in Cartagena and has been married to a 30-year-old Colombian for 10 years, looking for an apartment in Cartagena to enjoy his retirement, feels he knows the whole world.
Chris - has a talent for languages, speaks 5 languages (French, German, English, Mandarin, Spanish)

    12 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We (Franzi and Sara) started at the middle entrance „Calabazo“ and took the motorcycle for the first part - uphill and quite bumpy. We had about 2 hours of hiking ahead up and down through the jungle of Colombia to Playa Brava. We heard the howler monkeys 🐒, saw lizards and huge grasshoppers. Playa Brava 🏝 is a dream beach - white sand, blue water, palm trees, hammocks and just a handful of people. After another 3 hours of sweaty hiking through the jungle and along beautiful beaches we arrived at our campsite ⛺️ right in front of the Caribbean Ocean - Cabo San Juan. After the shower I felt like newborn. We were allowed to watch a beautiful sunset.Leia mais

  • Minca (1)

    14 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

After a chilled morning we went to Minca. What a journey 😅 Never ever save money for transportation especially when you go in the mountains. The taxi driver was so kind and drove me further up the mountains (actually just 4x4 jeeps or mototaxis can go there) and he said that it’s just a 5-10 min walk to my hostel. BUT…it was a 30 min steep hike through a coffee plantation with my 16 + 4 kg backpacks 🥵😂 I looked like showered as I arrived at my hostel „Casas Viejas by Masaya“. But it was definitely worth it. What an incredible view 😍 - just the jungle, wildlife sounds and nice people around me. After the delicious dinner (Lasagne) it was time for a pub quiz. We won the price for the best name „French Pink Toilette Paper“ 🥳😂Leia mais

    15 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Woke up at 6.30 am surrounded by nature, mountains, singing birds and howler monkeys - calming and exciting as well. After a healthy delicious coconut oatmeal, we started a little jungle hike to 2 waterfalls. We saw a lot of birds and were surprised by a snake 🐍 (Boa?). I enjoyed the afternoon on the veranda before we hiked up for sunset to a nearby viewpoint 🌅Leia mais

    16 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

I decided to do a solo hike to Los Pinos (view point surrounded by conifers) and further to the famous Marinka Waterfall 💦 and to the little town Minca. On my way up I needed to pass a military group what was a bit scary but they were really friendly, like all the people in Minca. I felt very save here and for the first time I had the feeling that I had arrived in Colombia. After 4h of hiking I had a refreshing bath into the pool of the waterfall and a very delicious Frappuccino in a nice cafe in Minca. For the way back I decided to take a mototaxi 🏍 - what an bumpy and horrible drive up the mountains.Leia mais

  • Medellin (1)

    17 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Bye bye my lovely place - Minca you were great! And hello Medellin. What a modern, diverse and enormously developed city. I was impressed from the first minute.
I started my stay with a Free Walking tour through the neighborhood El Poblado. Known as the new centre of Medellín, El Poblado is also famous for innovation, design, art and international haute cuisine.
I ended my day with a spontaneous salsa dance lesson 💃🏼 on the rooftop of my hostel.

Startet my day, of course, with a delicious Flat White and went to the city center to participate in the Food Tour 🧀🫔🥟🍉🫓 - Cheese, Sugar, Cheese, Sugar. Colombians love their Queso and Azúcar and also combine both 😳.

In the afternoon I did the Comuna-13-Tour. Listed as a must-see in Colombia by countless travel guides on the internet. The Commune 13 de Medellín surprises for its history of resilience and social transformation, for the colors of impressive murals and graffiti by mostly local artists, and for a neighborhood life as genuine as the inhabitants who kindly welcome the people who come to visit it.
Although at first, it is unsuspected, it is enough to set foot in The Commune 13 to begin to be aware of the innumerable experiences and expressions that occur there: its guides are often people who inhabit the neighborhood and who are testimony of its history, young people rap and breakdance and an escalator in the middle of the place lead to one of the most impressive views of the city; its colors, buildings, and mountains.
Which sentence of our guide has remained in my memory above all: “It was normal at that times to push a corpse aside if you wanted to play soccer.” 🥺

  • Medellin (6) and Jardin (1)

    22 de março de 2022, Colômbia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Started my day with a delicious breakfast at Hija Mia in Medellin - Sticky Date Bircher (Overnight oats, almonds, natural peanut butter, dates, buckwheat, poached pear with an orange and cinnamon yogurt) followed by a 4,5h bumpy bus drive to Jardin. I fell in love from the first second and I have affectionately called it the „Colombian Merano“.

In translation, the Spanish word ‘jardin’ means garden. To be honest, after a day I spent in Jardin, I cannot imagine a better name for this small pueblo nestled in a wonderful landscape of the Antioquia department.
It really is a garden. Peaceful, quiet, visual.

Muddy hike today. Actually, I wanted to go to 7 waterfalls, but unfortunately I have not found the way through the 1st waterfall and turned back. Was still beautiful.
Have met on the way a very nice 51 year old Dutch woman who is touring Colombia for 2 months. She had also made a trip around the world at the age of 30 and said that was the best time of her life and I do everything right.Leia mais
