Wow!! What a day!! The boys decided to go to the movies in Bellerive to see the new Spiderman movie, leaving us girl to explore on our own.
So we caught the Bellerive ferry (Hobart is trialling a ferry service throughout the Derwent River suburbs over the next 10 years) to the Brookes St Pier in Hobart City, where we saw the maxi's from the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race that finished when 'Black Jack' the Monaco maxi crossed the finish line here in Hobart (at 1.30am!!) followed by Sydney's 'Law Connect' and then Hong Kong's 'Scallywag' crossing the finish line in third position.
'Black Jack' was under heavy security at Constitution Dock but I did manage to get photographs. 'Law Connect' was nowhere to be found, found out later she was on her way back to Sydney. However I got to photograph 'Scallywag' up close and even touch her deck 😊😊 She is pretty magnificent. I have never been someone who is interesting in maxi yachts even going so far as to get seasickness and vertigo from being on boats and ships but this was really interesting!! When in Rome!!
We went on the Hop On Hop Off red double decker bus that gave us lots of information about Hobart and her history. It was so interesting and informative and it took an hour and a half to do the full loop.
We got off at Wrest Point casino, Australia's oldest legal casino, where we had afternoon tea/late lunch and hit the poker machines where I gave $30 and Nik gave $5 to the Tasmanian economy and waited for the bus to come around again. We got off, met the boys for a quick trip to Glenorchy and then travelled to kunanyi/Mount Wellington where we were 1.2km above Hobart. The boys loved it.
We then went to Billy's Burgers and Bar for dinner at showed the boys the maxi's and went back to our apartment. It's last minute washing and getting some packing done before we have to leave to go back home to Brisbane tomorrow.
It seems like forever that we left. It seems so long ago when we were in Oatlands looking at the Callington Mill windmill and marvelling at all the sheep and feeling happy to finally be here/be back. We have had such an adventure and I can't wait to be back!!!! I love it here, I love the peace, the people, the weather, the Tassie time, and her beautiful landscape. This will be our home one day, I just know it.Read more

Today (after we went to Cornelian Bay Cemetery to locate my 4 x great grandparents John and Mary Ann Singer and possibly great aunt Sarah's grave - grave found by Josh, rubbings and photographs taken)), we went into Hobart to explore...we walked from Melville St, the Docks and got to Salamanca Place. And stopped for lunch, onto Arthur's Circus at Battery Point and that was it!! After going non stop since the 13th, the adults of the Clan are tired!! So we came back to the apartment in Bellerive. I do love it here!! Nik has passed out.
We just happen to be in town for the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, so we checked out the Race Village at Constitution Dock, including the Cup in the Rolex marquee and the first Yacht is established to be here at around. 2.30am tomorrow morning!!Read more

Usually I'm not into honey, preferring it on hot buttered crumpets only but I found some lovely manuka honey lemon myrtle hand cream and manuka honey body lotion to help my poor sun kissed skin!! The Tassie sun doesn't like my skin!! I saw into my first beehive!! It was fascinating!!Read more

This lighthouse has been here since 1836, being built by 12 convicts in 18 months and was first lit in 1838. It was Tasmania's third lighthouse and Australia's fourth and was decommissioned in 1996.
Next land mass... again it's Antarctica and it's the furthest south we have gotten to on this trip!!Read more

This 'neck' is a very narrow isthmus separating north and south Bruny Island. Safe and calm on the right and wild and open on the left. Of course I splashed around in the wild side!
Truganini was born on Bruny Island C 1812 and wrongly believed to be the last 'full' First Nations woman. She was a woman displaced (putting it nicely) by colonisation, being sent to Flinders Island and then onto Oyster Cove and passing away in Hobart in 1876. Truganini had requested for a decent burial from the authorities, asking for her ashes to be scattered in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, the narrow strip of water separating Bruny Island from the mainland of Tasmania that we traveled through to get to Bruny Island, however this was denied in death. Truganini's skeleton was exhumed by the Royal Society of Tasmania with her skeleton being again disrespected and placed on display.
Truganini's skeleton and her cremation finally happened a century later with her ashes being scattered in the Channel.Read more
