    Heathrow to Memphis

    November 19, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Early start today. We had booked a taxi on the advice of the concierge, up rolls a Mercedes Limousine - I’m thinking he’s had me here!!! But turns out to be good advice and less stress than the tube. Into the airport and through passport control all trouble free, bit of breakfast and Janet amazes me by ordering tea not a lager !!! Turns out no one else had beer so she went with the safe option. Little wander around the shops before we call home to make sure Joe is up up for work (he is), even having breakfast ! Onto the flight which is 20 minutes late, but we make that time up landing early in Chicago. Through a self service passport control (new from last time we visited) collect our bags, drop them off again, more passport control and then we hit the bar for our first drink on American soil. Short little 90 minute flight to Memphis, I think we are not far off the youngest people on the flight. Walk down for a taxi chatting to a South African couple from London, turns out we are in the same hotel so we share a cab.
Hotel is functional, nothing flash and we have a double bed each. The hotel run a free shuttle service within a 3 mile radius, we take a trip to Beale Street - the “heart” of the blues in Memphis, if we are honest it’s a bit like a small Blackpool with better 🎶. We eat at Jerry Lawlors (former WWE wrestler), food is average but the is band good. Little wander around before we stop off at BB Kings Cafe, really good band and atmosphere in here, so much so we stop for 2 beers and Janet gets a signature cocktail glass. We are now starting to flag having been up for nigh on 24 hours so we get the shuttle back to the hotel.
    Graceland tomorrow.
