    Day 1

    Apr 15–16, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

I arrived in Bornholm and the island's main town Ronne with 13;000 people in the afternoon via plane. A ferry from Copenhagen would be possible as well or ferry from Sweden, but all these options take a lot of time.

Staying in a small cabin in a camping area near Ronne. Tomorrow I'll start hiking towards north and around the island. Totaling 120 kilometers. It should take around five to six days.

Made a short walk in the evening and the island and coming trail looks stunning! The weather is also perfect and should stay so during the whole hike.

    Apr 16–17, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ 🌫 14 °C

It's a beautiful island. I knew I would love this place as I've always liked the sea and on this route the sea is constantly right next to you.

The first part of the path was quite flat offering basically three choices for walking; Right on the shoreline, on top of the dunes and behind them.

Most of the day I walked on top of the dunes only now and then trying to walk on the shoreline but with a backpack I sank into the sand and walking got really heavy really quickly.

Towards north the landscape got more rugged and hilly offering few bigger climbs.

It's again warm, +25 degrees Celsius in the sun. Too warm!

    Apr 17–18, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Heavy wind blew the whole night and in the morning when I got out of the tent there was also heavy fog or mist making it feel like it would be raining too!

They promised +18 degrees Celsius, but in the end it was +8 with heavy east wind making the weather feel like zero degrees. The fog also persisted the whole day till evening. It was a bit chilly day!

But hey, at least the pictures look cool with that fog!

The views continued to be amazing especially around the northern tip of the island.

  • Day 4

    Apr 18–19, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

The forecast was accurate today and it was a much warmer day, around +15 degrees Celsius.

The landscape got much flatter and it was easier to walk. The path also went through several small villages and towns.

It's spring time and the island is blooming. There's some aroma in the air that I can't quite catch. It's like a familiar herb, but I just haven't been able to recognize it.

  • Day 5

    Apr 19–20, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

It was a bit of a difficult day as my ankle was hurting the first few hours of the day. It's nothing new, just the old thing that now and then reappears even without hiking.

It however got a bit better in the afternoon, but the terrain didn't! I found my absolute least favorite terrain to hike in; a fine white sand beach!

And we're not talking about a kilometer or two of this beach, no it was closer to ten! And tomorrow I will be looking at 20 kilometers of the same beach!

It's boring, difficult to walk with a backpack as you sink into the sand filling your shoes with sand. It's slow going.

Tomorrow I'll see if I can find a path behind the dunes. If not, I think I'll walk along the roads as I just can't do 20 km of that beach.

Oh yes, and yesterday evening I got a visitor to my tent who was very interested in the remains of my tuna sandwich. 😄

  • Day 6

    Apr 20–21, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

I left early in the morning around 7 am as I could see from the map that I had a long day ahead of me if I wanted to reach Ronne. Also, I was almost out of water because the nearby tap hadn't been opened yet. So no way of sitting and drinking morning coffee slowly...

Thankfully I found paths behind the dunes and also the official route went behind and on top of the dunes most of the day. Only occasionally I had to walk directly on the beach. It was as heavy as yesterday.

Also had a close encounter with a deer. I got a feeling that somebody was staring at me and when I turned my head there was a deer staring at me five meters away! He didn't seem to be that afraid of me.

Reached Ronne at 4 pm. It was a long day. Eight to nine hours of walking is the limit of my endurance. Even when I take breaks it still starts to feel extremely heavy and painful at around the eight hour mark.

And so I've completed the 120 kilometer coastal path! I'm surprised how fast I hiked it and how easy it felt even when there was quite a lot of climbing and descending.
