The Orkneys

Lovely calm trip across to Orkney. First stop Skara Brae - a fairly recently unearthed prehistoric village. Then toured through Skaill house next door , whose owner was the one who discovered the village after a huge storm. Drove on to see two sets of standing stones- Ring of Brodgar and Stenness. Next stop was Unstan Chambered Cairn which was a burial tomb that you could walk into (while doubled over). This was about 5000 years old! We also had a wander around the ruined Earl's Palace at Bursay. Orkney is much greener and more cultivated than the mainland. Another lovely, sunny day but very cold winds. Our accommodation for the next two nights is fabulous! We are staying in the Lairds Suite at Graemeshall House.Baca lagi
