Found an Austrian gorge that was open! We randomly drove by it on the way back to Salzburg from Gosausee yesterday, had a sign out front stating it was open. We found out the hard way that Austria considers it winter until mid May and sometimes June depending on the year so most gorge, waterfall, and high alpine areas are closed due to icy and dangerous conditions. Luckily this one opened early and we were able to explore on the way to Slovenia. Thanks to friends who shared great suggestions (thank you CJ and Meghan!!) we found Lake Bled and the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, which were amazing.Read more

Venice, Italy!

Made up of over 100 islands connected by over 400 bridges, Venice is a very unique city. Once on the first island there are places to park and then the rest of the city is car free. You can take boats/gondolas or walk which is what we chose to do. We had traveled here based on the beautiful weather forecasted, and it was definitely true! We had pizza, gnocchi, wine, aperol spritz, and gelato! For a short trip we packed a lot in as always.Read more

Italian dolomites/Dave’s birthday hike

We tried to hike to lake Sorapis in the Italian Dolomites but turned around about a half mile from the lake due to dangerous trail conditions. Before we turned around we encountered lots of snow and ice but it was very peaceful and beautiful views. Lots of technical icy scrambling and navigating some slick chutes.Read more

Tegernsee

Drove from Innsbruck, Austria back to Munich. Stopped at Tegernsee on the way to walk around the lake and eat lunch. Relaxing day before our long travel day tomorrow.
Traveler Wow. Look at those amazing Alps. Well, you might have to use some imagination, but they are there. I swear. I saw glimpses of them. 😩

Travel day from Munich to Bangkok

Very long day including shipping a box back to the US and flying Munich to Bangkok. Arrived to the airport 4 hours early based on the airline’s recommendation to return the car and check a bag due to weight restrictions on our airline….to find out the airway didn’t open their desk until 2.5 hours before takeoff 🤦🏼‍♀️ so we got coffee and prepped ourselves for the 10 hour 40 minute flight. Overall it went by faster than we thought it would with lots of movies and shows to watch.Read more

Arrived in Bangkok

Landed in Bangkok very early Saturday morning. Luckily Sarah came and picked us up! She and Olaf fed us and let us rinse off real quick before our car ride to Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand. It’s an amazing sanctuary for elephants, tigers, apes, monkeys, birds, and more.Read more

We did the afternoon tour and then stayed the night at their I Love Phants Lodge. Learning about the animal abuse in this country was sad but important. Please, never, ever go to a place today let’s you ride elephants, feed/pose with tigers, pose with monkeys, etc. The way the people break the spirit of the animals and/or drug them to make this possible is heart breaking. The air pollution here is very bad but we did see some blue sky once outside the city.Read more

Finished up the tour, fed a blind elephant, and checked into our room at the lodge. Our balcony overlooked one of the elephant areas and that was a dream ❤️

Night at the I Love Phants Lodge

We enjoyed our night at the lodge complete with watching the elephants, a nice dip in the pool, and watching a hazy sunset and gibbons from the deck where we had dinner.

Day 2 at WFFT

Started the morning with finding lots of wasps in our bathroom 😳 luckily they vacated once the sun came up and they decided to go back outside instead of into our main room. Nature! We loved seeing all the elephants even more active since it was a bit cooler in the morning (85 degrees Fahrenheit by breakfast and quickly rising). After a tasty breakfast it was time to finish the tour with with lots of necessary but sad information about the things the elephants, bears, and monkeys go through for the entertainment and tourist industries in Thailand and worldwide. Then the ride back to Bangkok for an amazing dinner with Sarah and Olaf followed by an interesting walk home.Read more
