Monkey forest!

The monkey forest is an amazing place that makes you feel far outside the city. The obvious draw is the 1260 monkeys that they have roaming free (mostly) inside the gates although they tend to explore the surrounding streets as well. But there are also 3 Hindu temples built around 1350 (before Indonesia was a country), the enormous banyan trees, and the amazing vines and roots hanging everywhere. We could have stayed much longer but also had a few instances of seeing some natural monkey squabbles which was fine until you saw their canines 😳Read more

Climbing Mt Batur for sunrise

We climbed nearly the entire 5,633 ft to the top of Mt Batur, a dormant volcano in Bali. It was a beautiful hike up with the Milky Way visible with the naked eye! Our guide was knowledgeable on how to get up the steep and rocky/sandy path which helped but it eas still a challenge. Once at the top the clouds came in so most of sunrise was unfortunately covered. And then a pack of monkeys came to steal everyone’s food which was a crazy sight. Overall over 700 hikers climbed for sunrise that day but mostly everyone was respectful.Read more

Amazing breakfast before leaving Ubud

The boys picked a delicious breakfast place with a great view of monkeys, hilarious descriptions of food and drinks, and beautiful decor. The smoothie bowls were a work of art!

Besakih great temple on the way to Amed

On the way to the beach town we stayed at after Ubud, we stopped at a Hindu holy site that included 23 temples. Tourists were not allowed inside the temples themselves which was refreshing to see, and our guide explained many of the historical events and cultural practices while we walked around.Read more

Arriving in Amed

Amed is a small beach town in Bali known for their diving. It was a change of pace to a relaxing few days before flying back to Thailand.

Relaxing day at the beach house

We chose to relax and enjoy what our beach house had to offer. From swimming in the pool, to badminton, to observing the 8-10” Tokay geckos we had a lot of fun.

Amed beach house part 2

Unfortunately some of the wildlife got into our rooms 😂 a tokay gecko in Erica and Dave’s room and a massive spider in Sarah and Olaf’s. Luckily the badminton practice paid off as the boys attacked the spider and won. Olaf bounced on the bed to make sure the spider didn’t have any friends hiding which made all of us laugh.Read more

Leaving Bali for Thailand

We had a relaxing morning in Amed followed by exploring the beach area around Densapar. Although the area wasn’t for us, the food was amazing. Then a quick flight back to Thailand and a good nights rest.Read more

TravelerIt was amazing. Super fresh corn fritters. The walk to this place was…interesting to say the least. Think myrtle beach but way more curse words, skanky souvenirs, etc.

Klong tour in Bangkok

We took a small wooden boat through the klongs which are the small canals through Bangkok. We were surprised at the varied wealth of the homes along the river: from beautiful mansions with immaculate landscaping to shacks that were literally degrading and falling into the water. Also saw a massive monitor lizard jump into the water and swim: they can grow up to 6.5 ft long and weigh 110 lbs!! We also saw people feeding fish from the shore, most of them were catfish and huge! Hundreds would come up to the surface at once and most were several feet long.Read more

Bangkok’s Chinatown

We took a Tuk Tuk from the klong tour to Chinatown. Our driver was amazing and hilarious which made the trip go by fast. Also, he drove REALLY fast. We met with Olaf in a restaurant on the river and had a wonderful Thai meal. Then Olaf guided us through Chinatown including the plastic shoe section and the food area. We ended the area with a delicious cold lemonade in air conditioning, much needed with 128 degree temps.Read more

The Grand Palace

Our first day back to Thailand, we explored the grand palace in Bangkok, which is used actively for the royal family to live in. It was built in 1782 after the ancient city Ayutthaya was attacked. The ornate architecture was beautiful, especially in the sun. Unfortunately, there were no clouds and the heat index got up to 128°. As a sign of respect, you are required to be covered from shoulders all the way down to your ankles.Read more

A Buddhist temple built in 1630 as a memorial to the king’s mother. Here typically dress in fancier traditional clothing for photos which was neat to see.
