Our 17th national park together! We enjoyed driving and hiking above the clouds including the sliding sands trail. The elevation and dry, hot temperatures were rough but beautiful views.

Kilauea lighthouse

We kept to the relaxing theme and walked around the Kilauea lighthouse which is a preserve for seabirds. We saw red footed boobies, albatross, and several others.

Waimea canyon

We attempted to drive up to the top of Waimea canyon state park but the clouds were so thick you couldn’t see more than 30 yards. So we opted for a lower lookout and then headed to poipu beach.
