Our 17th national park together! We enjoyed driving and hiking above the clouds including the sliding sands trail. The elevation and dry, hot temperatures were rough but beautiful views.

We flew from Maui to Kauai and enjoyed some amazing coffee before heading to Hanalei bay resort. A little bird friend likes to frequent our balcony.

Hanakapi’ai falls

We hiked the *very* slick and muddy trail to Hanalapi’ai falls in Haena state park. It’s a permit only trail which keeps overcrowding to a minimum. Even with good gear we had lots of slips and Czytaj więcej

Kilauea lighthouse

We kept to the relaxing theme and walked around the Kilauea lighthouse which is a preserve for seabirds. We saw red footed boobies, albatross, and several others.
Sushi dinner

Finished up the day with good drinks and fresh but expensive sushi. Also saw the stars after sunset for the first time as the clouds cleared for a second.
Shaved ice

We tried to drive south to some beaches but the road was completely shut down. After going less than a mile in 45 minutes we turned around and got breakfast and delicious coffees. We also had shaved Czytaj więcej
Swimming with turtles!!!!

we finally saw turtles at Anini beach ❤️❤️ they hang out off the beach where fish come and clean their shells
Waimea canyon

We attempted to drive up to the top of Waimea canyon state park but the clouds were so thick you couldn’t see more than 30 yards. So we opted for a lower lookout and then headed to poipu beach.
Poipu beach with monk seals and turtles!

We were finally able to see monk seals at Poipu Beach, a species that has fewer than 1400 total animals and around the main Hawaiian islands around 150. So we are lucky to see them, one lounged on the Czytaj więcej
Wailua falls
