  • Cummins falls state park

    July 12, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

Cummins Falls State Park is an idyllic, but rugged, 306-acre day-use park located nine miles north of Cookeville on the Blackburn Fork State Scenic River on the Eastern Highland Rim.

Cummins Falls is Tennessee’s eighth largest waterfall in volume of water and is 75 feet high.

Unfortunately, we arrived to no bathrooms (water leak shut them down ironically) so the start of the day was delayed and we didn’t realize we needed permits until arriving and Erica’s back wasn’t up to going down to the gorge but we’d love to come back and do it again.

  • Burgess falls state park

    July 12, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

Located on the Falling Water River, this day-use park is noted for its natural beauty and four waterfalls that cascade down from over 250 feet in elevation. The last of these falls is the most spectacular, plunging more than 130 feet into the gorge. The area was originally populated by Native Americans of the Cherokee, Creek and Chickasaw tribes. These tribes used the land as a hunting ground until the late 19th century when a gristmill and sawmill began operating on the river. The Falling Water River was used to generate hydroelectric power for the city of Cookeville from 1928-1944. In 1973, the territory became a designated Tennessee State Natural Area, protecting the diverse forest and aquatic habitats.Read more

  • Rock Island state park

    July 12, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

Rock Island State Park is an 883-acre park located on the headwaters of Center Hill Lake at the confluence of the Caney Fork, Collins, and Rocky Rivers.

We visited Great falls, a 30 foot waterfall that was very wide and impressive, located below a 19th century cotton mill.

Next we went to Twin Falls, an 80ft waterfall which is actually the result of the dam being built upstream when the engineers didn’t realize this area was hollow ground. So the overflow ends up spilling through caves in the sides of the cliff. It was a beautiful and short hike, you can even see a good portion of the falls from the parking lot.

Fall Creek Falls State Park is one of Tennessee’s largest and most visited state parks. The park encompasses more than 29,800 acres sprawled across the eastern top of the rugged Cumberland Plateau. Laced with cascades, gorges, waterfalls, streams and lush stands of virgin hardwood timber, the park beckons those who enjoy nature at her finest. Fall Creek Falls, at 256 feet, is one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States. We also enjoyed Cane Creek Falls (85 ft tall) and Rockhouse falls (125 ft tall). Even just driving through this state park was beautiful.Read more

  • South cumberland state park

Foster Falls plunges 60 ft into a deep pool. This was easily the shortest hike to a waterfall with a swimming hole and next time we’ll bring our swim suits and a picnic lunch. Loving all the swinging bridges and easy access waterfalls in this area 😂Read more

  • Upper limits climbing gym

Erica’s first and all time favorite climbing gym. Dave liked the tall auto belays and we both want to come back when skilled enough to do the 120 ft outdoor route.
