Tainui-watere domain in Mokau. We didn't get a powered site, but we managed to get a site where the 3 of us (couples) got to park at right angles to each other to form a communal horseshoe setup. Marley was initially quite standoffish, but over the course of the evening, she realised everyone was safe and became very friendly. Both dogs behaved pretty well, which bodes well for the rest of the weekend.
A chilled evening; friends re-bonding over a few alcoholic beverages, then time for a well deserved sleep!もっと詳しく
Had a rocking and rolling time last night as the fierce wind buffeted the motorhome!
Another fantastic breakfast to start the day as we all eventually rolled out of bed.
A short trip up to the wee village of Mokau to investigate the pop up market (which took all of 3 minutes) then our choice of beverages for morning tea at the local Cafe.
Took the dogs down to the beach and let them have time off the leads. Marley was determined to entice Diesel to chase her, however, with only mild success. A swim in the water (for the dogs!) rounded off the fun nicely, then back to the camp site for a cuppa.
Rain and thunderstorms were forecast for the afternoon and evening, so we spent time just reading and relaxing in our respective campers.
The evening was spent in Karen and Mark's caravan doing crosswords and enjoying each other's company.
Meanwhile we left both dogs in the motorhome and they were very pleased to see us when we got in. Marley decided that she was going to sleep cuddled up with Diesel- so cute!もっと詳しく
What a day we had! The campsite greeted us this morning with quite the surprise—a full-on lake right beside our camp site thanks to a torrential downpour overnight. But a bit of water never hurt anyone, right? As we set out to make the most of the day, I spotted not one but two four-leaf clovers by our site! I'm not one for luck, but finding them felt like a little bit of magic to start the day.
The boys decided it was the perfect day for a spot of fishing, so Neil and I grabbed his rod, the dogs, and headed to the beach. We hadn’t been out long before the skies decided to join the fun with a sudden downpour. No worries here, though—I’m certainly not made of sugar!
While the others settled down for nana naps, Neil and I took the dogs on a long, scenic walk. We strolled along the beach, crossed the bridge, wandered down the heritage walkway, and eventually made it up to Mokau, where we treated ourselves to classic Kiwi double-cone ice creams. Let’s just say, the dogs were in pure bliss when we handed over the cones!
On our way back, we ran into a charming chocolate Labrador named Milo. He was very friendly, but apparently, he’d earned himself a spot in the doghouse after eating an entire bag of bait—plastic and all! Thank goodness that cleanup duty wasn't on us.
Finally, just as we returned to the campsite, the rain began again—perfect timing for us to settle in, kick back, and enjoy a bit of well-earned relaxation.
Later on in the evening, we were so ready to climb into bed early, feeling all the wear and tear that comes with adventure. No sooner had we settled in than the skies put on a show for the ages. Lightning crackled, thunder rolled, and hail pounded down, turning the world outside into a full-on storm of epic proportions!
But while the world raged on, we stayed snug and safe under the covers, tucked in with our two furry companions. Neil was a little concerned that the dogs might get spooked by the storm. To our surprise, though, they didn’t seem bothered at all. Instead, they both snuggled close under Diesel’s blanket, seemingly as calm as ever. As the storm continued to rumble, we drifted off, feeling grateful for the cozy comfort of a night in with our little family – thunder, lightning, hail, and all. A cozy end to a memorable day!もっと詳しく
Ah, the final day of a holiday – always a bit of a mix, isn't it? You’re full of memories from all the good times, yet there's that tug toward home. Part of you just wants to extend the adventure a little longer, while the other part longs for your own cozy routine, a big comfy bed, and the simple comforts of home.
The trip back was smooth as silk – the dogs snoozed most of the way, and I caught a bit of sleep too (thankfully Neil didn’t join us in that nap!). And speaking of comforts, Neil’s on Wheels is getting a brand-new fridge this week! Our last one gave up on us a few weeks ago, which meant we were surviving on a mini portable fridge while on an unpowered site. But, hey, we’re always up for a bit of a challenge. Besides, if we can do a motorhome holiday with two dogs in tow, we can handle just about anything!もっと詳しく
旅行者Have a great weekend. We're spending ours doing property maintenance (ie pruning) Hope the rain stays away from the Nakki.
旅行者Are you riding out the storm or have you gone home? It's pretty blowy and heavy rain here. 🌧
