    Ross Castle & Muckross Abbey

    We stopped to take a quick look at Ross Castle, a 15th century tower house, but did not go inside. We made our way to Muckross Abbey. The Abbey was founded in 1448 as a Franciscan friary. Inside the Abbey is a giant Yew tree, which is symbolic of everlasting life and rebirth. The yew tree was planted in 1448 and still grows on today. The Abbey has been incredibly preserved throughout and you do feel like you are stepping back in time.Read more
