Fortress of Louisburg

Today we went to see one of the planned places on this trip, the Fortress of Louisburg. Learned the difference between a fort and a fortress. A fort is strictly military, whereas a fortress is more of a town protected by a wall and the military. It was built by the French. And around 1740ish the British took it over for five years. Then the French got it back for ten years. Then the British got it back and decided to destroy it. It took 10 more years to pillage the place and destroy the fortress. One fifth of the fortress had been reconstructed. Pretty interesting place see.Läs mer
