Fly ✈ to Melbourne on Sharp then taxi 🚕 to Jim's place as I have 7 hours to fill in.
Then find some lovely lunch at Buckley Corner cafe☕️.
Then walk 👣 and tram 🚠 to Essendon DFO.
Have a look around then bus 🚌 back to Jim's.
I do my usual and get on the bus going the wrong way so get off at the next stop, cross the road and hop back on a bus the going the right way!!!Read more

From Melbourne to Darwin.
Get in at 11.30 NT time, 1 o'clock in the morning Tassie time!
Then settle into Travelodge for a few hours before getting up again. Hopefully, I can use that pool on the way home!Read more

Back to Bathurst Island on 8 am plane and straight back into work. Pretty tired today, not much sleep.

Coconut took me nearly an hour to dehusk but I eventually got it.

It rained

After a threatening but dry weekend it decided to rain at lunch time and most of the afternoon.
You get a hot slightly muggy morning then it builds up until a thunderstorm around lunchtime - without fail. It doesn't always drop rain ☔ even though it looks like it should.

Cemetery and ceremonies

There's a lovely (and busy!) cemetery here. There's a funeral at least once a month, often once a week. Next week is an old fella who died of cancer. This one was expected so not so bad as the young fella last month.
Part of their grave can be burial poles, there are some in the museum too explaining their significance.
They bring the coffin to the relative's house, they build a shelter in the yard where the coffin sits for a few days, and the family do their dancing ceremonies, etc. If it's a man the men dance. I guess it could be the same for women. Then they bury them in the cemetery. PukumaniRead more

My impression of the people here - healthier than the desert people although they still have their health issues. They seem happier too, known for their smiles.
It is supposed to be a dry community but you can buy a limited amount of mid strength beer cans from the Club. You do have to get an alcohol permit if you want to bring alcohol to the Island.
It is a pretty island but Flinders is prettier and you can actually swim in the sea on Flinders. I loved the tropical experience but was thankful for the air conditioning.

I was walking around Darwin and came across some street art I was sure wasn't here last time I came.
I was right...... There was a Street Art Festival in September. Reminded me of Mocton, Canada when we were there.

Travelodge Mirambeena Resort.
The place where RAHC put you up enroute to and from Top End contracts. I've been here a few times now and the first time I have had a chance to get to enjoy the pool. Had tea beside the pool too, the restaurant was closed-much better anyway.Read more

4 1/2 hour flight to Melbourne playing nurse to a fruit loop beside me. I managed to escape her a few times with earphones in (still didn't stop her yapping most of the time) or pretending to be asleep.
Got in at 6pm and 30 degrees in Melbourne!
