  • Charles De Gaulle Airport, Paris, France

    June 22, 2018 in France ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Reasonably good flight. We got very little sleep. The approach was fun. Turbulence made it feel like a ride at the fair. We walked down stairs onto the tarmac and were bused to the terminal.

  • St. Germaine Des Pres Hotel, Paris, Fran

    June 22, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We have arrived. When we walked into the hotel to check in we were greeted by name. What an interesting room key we have. You leave the key at the front desk when you leave so they know who's in and out (the key is also huge to carry) upon returning they remember which room is yours and automatically hand you the key. The breakfasts are great (fresh squeezed orange juice).Read more

  • Tuileries Garden, Paris, France

    June 23, 2018 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

I was looking forward to beautiful gardens judging from the name. Not so. There were green spaces mainly. A few pretty areas as you got closer to the Louvre.

  • Bateaux Mouches, Paris, France

    June 23, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We took a boat cruise up and down the Seine river in the evening. Our timing was prefect the sun had set not long before and the lights were on at the Eiffel Tower. The banks of the river were lined with young people out visiting and having picnics. The commentary was very difficult to hear about what we were seeing was the only drawback.Read more

  • Monet's Home & Garden, Giverny, France

    June 24, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We travelled by bus out to Giverny, France in the Normandy region to see Claude Monet's home and gardens. The gardens themselves where absolutely beautiful and worth seeing however the place was packed with people. We had a little less than 2 hours to see everything so the house was out if the question due to the lines. The gift shop line was so long Doug just took a place in the checkout line as soon as we got there and I shopped and handed him things as I found them. We had next to no time left after this to see Giverney itself. Still it was beautiful!Read more

  • Big Red Bus, Paris, France

    June 24, 2018 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

This was well worthwhile but we were not able to catch the bus until today. It was over 2 hours touring around Paris and listening to facts and stories. We saw all the major attractions again and we learned of even more like the Opera House. This is the theatre the Phantom of the Opera story is based on.Read more

  • Luxembourg Garden, Paris, France

    June 24, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

I was looking forward to this but it was a disappointment. With the exception of Monet's garden, the gardens in Paris seem to be trees with gravel everywhere. On occasion there are patches of grass but these are roped off so no one can walk on them. Everyone sits around these patches in chairs looking at them and relaxing.Read more

  • Hotel Moderne, Arras, France

    June 25, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We have a large room by European standards. It's a tad sparse as there's no drawers to store anything in. No bathroom counter to speak of and no fridge. It does have nice big doors you can open for fresh air, a tub and it's very clean.Read more

  • The Wellington Quarry, Arras, France

    June 25, 2018 in France ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

This afternoon we toured ancient caves at the city of Arras. They were originally constructed in medieval times. During WW1 the Australians build 20 km's of tunnels connecting them all. By times over 20,000 soldiers were living in these tunnels and caves. Doug's Great Grandfather John Kennedy lived in these tunnels from April 1st through the 5th in 1918. So far two carvings from his battalion have been found in the tunnels.Read more
