  • Windsor Castle, Windsor, England

    July 5, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Windsor Castle was very scenic. Lineups were very long so we were unable to see the State Rooms or Queen Mary's doll house. St. George's chapel was amazing though (see separate footprint).

  • St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle

    July 5, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

These are pictures of St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Megan and Harry were married here 6 weeks ago. I wish we could have taken pictures of the inside of the church but it was not allowed. We had almost complete and full access to wander around. It's much smaller than it appeared on TV. We were able to walk out through where they walked out to sign the register. We were able to stand where they stood. We were not able to go into the pews where the immediate family sat though. The tombs of many past Kings and Queens are buried inside the church as well.Read more

  • Windsor, England

    July 5, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Wish we could have spent more time here. We were on a bus trip and had to leave at a set time. It was a lovely village.

  • Kensington Palace, London, England

    July 5, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Kensington Palace is the current home of Prince William and Catherine, Prince Harry and Megan and a few other Royals. It was the palace we had the most access to plus it was just up the street from our hotel. The first State Rooms we toured belonged to William and Mary (see pictures below). We then toured the display of Diana's clothing (see separate footprint) and then went through the section on Victoria (see separate footprint as well).Read more

  • Victoria Collection, Kensington Palace

    July 5, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We really enjoy watching the Victoria show on TV so this was of special interest. Victoria was born and grew up in Kensington Palace. At that time it was out in the countryside. We saw the room she came to and held the meeting with all the important people of the country. This within hours of unexpectedly becoming Queen at the age of 18 .Read more

  • Sunken Garden, Kensington Palace

    July 5, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

This is located directly behind the palace. Apparently Diana used to love wandering through here. This year it's designed to reflect and compliment her clothing display. I believe last year it was all done in white flowers to honour the anniversary of her death.Read more

  • Kensington Gardens, London, England

    July 5, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

This garden is located between Hyde Park and Kensington Palace. It would have been nice to explore it further but it was the end of the day, we were tired and it was very, very hot out.

  • Tower of London, London, England

    July 6, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

The crown jewels were the highlight here. There was a long line to see them but it moved fairly quickly. We waited about 40 minutes. Sorry no pictures as it's not allowed. There's old walls here dating back to Roman times. The inner towers construction was started by William the Conqueror. Here again we could have spent more time but we were trying to see as many things as possible.Read more

  • Buckingham Palace, London, England

    July 6, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

No explanation needed as to what this is. We were again amazed at how much smaller it is than you think. The balcony that you see them on is not that high up and not that far away from the gates.

  • Harrods Department Store, London, UK

    July 6, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

This was hands down the most expensive meal we will have on the trip and it was in a department store! This place is massive with departments for everything. There's even various places to eat. We ate at The Rotisserie which was a counter with stools in the food department. I loved my meal, Doug said his duck wasn't quite cooked enough. We had about 2 hours to wander through here before it closed. I think it would take 2 days to see everything.Read more

  • Big Bus Hop on Hop off Tour, London, UK

    July 6, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

These are a good way to see the city but are a bit hard to catch. We had a terrible time with this in Paris. The loop to see it all in Paris was 2 and a half hours, in London it's 4 hours. You have earphones in and you hear about all the sites in the city as you drive past. You can get off and back on again at stops throughout the city. We almost did the entire loop in London. Our final stop was Harrods department store. We just missed a couple of stops after that. Attached are some of the places we drove by. It would have been nice to stop at Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, the London Eye etc. But we only had so much time. There are no pictures of Big Ben as it was completely covered in scaffolding and couldn't be seen.Read more

  • Gatwick Airport Car Rental, Horely, UK

    July 7, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Doug decided to pay a little extra to have an automatic transmission car. They gave us the keys to a Mercedes C class car and we loaded everything in, unfortunately someone had overridden the navigational system so it would only communicate in Russian. An employee worked on it but had no luck so they upgraded us again to a Mercedes E class car. We are enjoying this ride!Read more

  • Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England

    July 7, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

This was an unexpected stop. We didn't realize it was on our way. We crested a hill and there it was in front of us, so in we went. Quite amazing how they managed to build this so long ago with stones from so far away.Read more

  • Bodmin Goal (Jail), Bodmin, England

    July 8, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Shortly before the trip I learned that my GG Grandfather (Robert Wonnacott) had been incarcerated here at the age of 14 in 1865. It didn't take much for the poorer classes to end up here at that time we learned. I was able to see what is left of the cell block he would have been in.Read more

  • Porthcurno, England

    July 8, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We headed here as some scenes from the show Poldark that we like, were filmed here. It was part of our day of looping around the western edge of Cornwall. It looked like a nice enough beach but it was an awfully long walk to it down a hill.Read more

  • Porthgwarra Beach, St Levant, England

    July 8, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

The road into this was crazy narrow for quite a ways with walls up either side of dirt, hedge and rock. Only one car could get through at a time so if you met someone there was quite often backing up involved. This was a location where more scenes of Poldark were filmed.Read more

  • Botallack Mine, Botallack, England

    July 8, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Tin mines were big in Cornwall starting in the 1700's through to the 1900's. You could wander freely among the ruins of these mines on the cliffs above the sea. It was very, very pretty. This is also the location where some of the mine scenes from Poldark were filmed.Read more
