    Snorkelling

    March 29, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

In the afternoon we set off on the catamaran again to find a quiet bay where we could spend some time in the water.
The islands are within the Coral Sea and are surrounded by fringe coral. Border Island, one of the Whitsundays, offered a good stopping point in calm water. We donned stinger suits and took to the water. the tide was low so we were very close to the coral at some points. The under sea life was plentiful with lots of colour.
These islands were devastated by cyclone Debbie 2 years ago which raged for 3 days - stripping the islands of every leaf from the plentiful trees and damaging the corals quite extensively, there was much evidence of dead coral but also a great deal of renewal too. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the water.
