    October 13, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Jamie and Renee had the day off so we went for a walk up to the summit of Mount Coot-tha. The high spot overlooking Brisbane. It was another warm day little Summer walked up without complaint - only needing a couple of carries. The ice cream shop at the top was very welcome.
We were going to eat in the city but decided that would be too time consuming so we ate at a contemporary Thai cafe in a local shopping mall- the food delicious. The pool beckoned for the remainder of the afternoon.

Another hot day, hot enough for A to go in the pool on the afternoon. In the evening we went to Sophies school dance show at Albany High. The school is renowned for its dance excellence programme. The show lasted from 6:30 through to 9 pm and was excellent from start to finish. Sophie performed on four dances. Every dance of 30 on the night to a very high standard. It was great to meet Renee's parents once again.Read more

    October 12, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Weather gradually warming up since our arrival. Karen currently in pool with Summer. We have spent a couple of days getting our itinerary sorted for our road trip to Tasmania and have had the car serviced locally in preparation.
We are making 4 stops on the 1000mile drive to Melbourne choosing the inland route.
Yesterday we drove into New Farm and walked into the City along the river to have lunch at the River Quay Fish restaurant on the South Bank. Bob the local lizard padded around by our feet as we enjoyed a seafood platter. The bougainvillea are beginning to flower along the south bank walkway and with the Jacaranda in full bloom made it all very colourful.
After lunch we wandered through the Botanic gardens which are yet to reach their summer colours before returning along the river to the car.

    October 9, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We are having a lazy day today, with the girls at school and day care we took the time to get our map of Australia out so we could plan our road trip south to Melbourne.
A bit warmer today so Karen has been in the pool.
Samantha has jut returned from school and is busy making cake pops.
The Jacaranda trees in Jamie's plot are almost at their most colourful.

Our flight to Taiwan from Heathrow was long at 13 hours but uneventful and we managed to sleep through most of it, arriving in Taipei at 16:30 local time Our flight on to Brisbane left at 23:55 leaving us a long stop over. We found a lounge to rest in for a while then stretched our legs around the massive airport buildings looking to find the Jambo outlet where we had enjoyed smoothies on our previous visits. Avocado and apple smoothie - very refreshing.
Another 8 hour flight, a little turbulent at times saw, us arrive in Brisbane at 10:30, to be greeted by the smiling faces of Jamie and Samantha.
We were back at Eatons Hill by noon and enjoyed a lovely Sunday afternoon and evening with Renee, Jamie and the girls.
It was great to be back with the all the young ladies once again, Sophie and Samantha as lively as ever. Little Summer was teasing us from the moment she set eyes on us again which was lovely.

The day was a little cold by Queensland standards, Jamie got the fire pit working in the garden and we all enjoyed a couple of beers and wines together prior to a beautiful evening meal prepared in advance by Renee.
Bed by 20:00 with no idea how our body clock is working.

    October 5, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Jumping ahead to our current trip starting tomorrow.
There are some highlights missing since June 2022, not least.
Move to new house, trip to Latitude festival 2022, (eventful journey), down size motorhome, visit to Amsterdam to meet Jamie et al, Family week in Cotswolds, trip to Brisbane, trips up north, to Sidmouth and to Wales, birth of our 7th grandchild - Esme - congrats to Kirsty and Matt, visits to London to see Stewart et al.
One major low light was the sudden and sad demise of Karen's mother Margaret in October 2022
Will eventually sort photos and narrative to go with our memories.

  • Sidmouth

    June 22, 2022 in England ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Another big adventure for the girls on their holiday, a trip to see Great Granny Mac in Sidmouth. We put the van back into storage at 10:00am and set off immediately to Sidmouth arriving at about 12:30.
It was a warm day, so after lunch and a quiet time we took the girls down to the beach in mid afternoon. The tide was right in so there was not much of the sand showing below the pebble line. Nevertheless Karen and Jemima greatly enjoyed paddling in the surf, Mary less so.
On Thursday the weather had cooled considerably, but we wandered down to the beach anyway to let the girls play in the sand which they greatly enjoyed.
Friday was a similar day with the added excitement of preparations for Jemima's fourth birthday the following day. The 2 girls helped ice and decorate the birthday cake and assisted in the making of jelly/trifle for the party. The girls chatted non stop as we did so. High levels of excitement!!!! Daddy and Magnus were coming to join us all in the evening, Stewart bringing him down in the car after school.
Kirsty and Matt joined us late morning to join the celebration.
We returned to North Baddesley on Sunday after a great few days with the family. We had been feeling a little grotty for a few days so we tested ourselves for covid upon our arrival at the site. We both had a positive test which was not brilliant in the circumstances. We can only assume that we picked up the bug in London.

    June 21, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We had promised the girls a night in the motorhome, so we booked a pitch on the site adjacent to the motorhome storage facility.
In the afternoon we drove down to Titchfield Haven to have a little walk along the beach. The girls were combing for pretty shells in the sand. Back at the site they were excited to play outside, but only after investigating inside the van, finding out what each of the buttons did and opening windows for fresh air.
They were very excited to sleep overnight in the van. Once we had got them to sleep we read our books in silence for the remainder of the evening.
