Oh dear!!
We settled into our new campsite called Quarry View and then wandered into the town to see what it had to offer. The answer was VERY little!!!! Other than the railway there was nothing to attract tourists. Although we had read that there were interesting shops we failed to spot any that were even worth the trouble of putting on a face mask to go inside - face masks are still compulsory in Wales.En savoir plus

At the top of the mountain there was a bit of a queue to complete the final steps to the trig point. The summit drifted in and out of cloud while we were up there with views to the coastlines obscured.
We enjoyed our packed lunch just off the summit then returned via the same route, getting into Llanberis in late afternoon where we celebrated a brilliant day walk with a well earned drink at a local hostelry.En savoir plus

We woke up to perfect conditions for a walk up the mountain, so fortified ourselves with a hearty breakfast.
Setting off at 9:30 from our site we arrived at the start of the path at 9:45 and started our ascent. Three hours later we arrived at the summit after a steady climb along a well marked path which runs along the same general route of the famous railway. Monday appeared to be the worst of the two days weatherwise, so we decided that our best bet for a walk up the mountain would be on the following day which at least had a dry forecast. The mountains around us were shrouded in cloud so any views on the route would not be seen.
Instead we completed a walk around Llyn Padarn and took in the old Castle and the Welsh National Slate Museum. The museum was absolutely fascinating and well worth the visit.
After having had a good look at the museum we completed the walk around the lake which took us high up above the lake, past the Old Miners Hospital and through the woods before dropping down to return on the north side of the lake at water level.En savoir plus

We booked ourselves into the touring site at Llanberis for three nights in the hope that one of the two full days we would be there would have weather good enough for us to do the Llanberis Path to the summit of Snowdon.
We had been advised that the village of Beddgelert was worth a visit so we tailored our route for a quick stop off. We arrived under heavy rain, found a layby just outside the village and wandered into the village which is nestled in the valley at the confluence of two rivers.
Beddgellert was worth the detour and the route from there to Llanberis via the A498 and then the A4086 crossing the Llanberis Pass was truly spectacular.

On our way to Caernarfon we stopped off for a quick look at Conwy which is a beautiful little town opposite the river from Llandudno. It is home to a great castle and claims to have the country's smallest house, and old fisherman's cottage by the sea front.
We then moved on to Is Helen site which overlooked the southern end of the Menai Strait.
We walked into the town in the afternoon but we were prevented from entry due to a breakdown on the swing bridge crossing the river.
The bridge had been fixed by the following day so we had a good look around the town, which was very pristine, and visited the castle.
On Saturday we enjoyed a lazy day with the papers.En savoir plus

We walked across the fields from our site near Llandudno Junction into the main town as we planned to walk to The Great Orme. It was a great day to do this walk as The Tour of Britain cycle race was finishing today's stage race next to the summit of the climb.
It was once again a very warm day and the town was filling up with cyclists coming in to see the finish of the race. Our legs had recovered from our climb up the Cadair Idris a few days ago but the final climb up to the top of The Great Orme was still challenging. The cyclists were faced with a 2k climb in parts at 20% at the end of a 210k stage of the race.
We located ourselves at the top of the steepest section of the climb and watched these incredible athletes storm up the hill and onward to the finish line further up the hill. The event was very colourful with great support for the cyclists and in particular Mark Cavendish who ascended with a broad smile.En savoir plus

A travelling day to Llandudno - we took the A4212 out of Bala which took us past the reservoir Llyn Celyn which was clearly very far from being full. We then took the very picturesque B4391 towards Llan Ffestiniog where some of the scenery was spectacular. We then rejoined the A470 and stopped off at Betws y Coed where we parked up in a layby and walked across fields into the village.
The village was very busy with visitors and the old railway station buildings were full of craft shops and eateries..
We arrived at Newry Grange CL site at noon then cycled into LLandudno in the afternoon for a visit. The cycle route via the coast was sand logged in part which made the ride quite difficult at times.
We were expecting Llandudno to be similar to Skegness but were very pleasantly surprised to see a very elegant town with a broad and well used promenade along the bay.En savoir plus

We travelled to Llanuwchllyn via Dolgellau where we parked up outside the village and wandered in for a look. It was a Sunday, so quite quiet in the town which has a fairly elegant market square. It sits on the River Wnion but access to the river is prevented by the installation of flood defence barriers.
Our site at Llanuwchllyn was located at the southern end of Llyn Tegid which is the largest natural lake in Wales.
The site called Bwch-yn Uchaf was also adjacent to the Lake Tegid narrow gauge railway which runs along the lake edge to the town of Bala. We booked ourselves in for the following day and looked forward to a fine day.
Waking to blue skies we enjoyed our ride along the lake side pulled along by a small steam engine in an open carriage.
There were lots of people on the water in boats, on paddle boards and in kayaks. We had a look around the town and found a seat by the side of the lake to read our books prior to returning to the siteEn savoir plus
