Winchester

Two days at Morn Hill site near Winchester so Alan could get medical stuff completed. The site was very busy with vans arriving at regular intervals.
On the morning we left Milford on Sea the site at Hunters Moon in Wareham phoned to state that they were underwater due to the overnight heavy rain and our 4 night stay was cancelled. When we looked at alternatives all sites near the beaches were booked up for the weekend but we managed to get ourselves back into Parley Glade.
We walked into Winchester and enjoyed a great afternoon at The Wykeham Arms with Syd and Jo. Czytaj więcej

Milford on Sea

We spent two nights free camping on Salt Lane at Milford on Sea. We checked the tide times before our arrival to make sure we were not going to be flooded out. A really beautiful place to pitch up, and we really enjoyed waking up to the view across the marshes and the smell of the sea. We will definitely return here some day.
There were a few other motorhomers settling down along the strip and lots of people out and about walking along the spit to Hurst Castle and along the coast path to Keyhaven.
We planned out the week ahead and noticed that there were a few days available at a site in Wareham where we could go to over the coming weekend so booked ourselves in for a four night stay. The forecast was predicting beach weather at last.
We walked into Milford on Sea in the afternoon and the next day walked along one of our favourite routes to Lymington via the Keyhaven salt marshes. Czytaj więcej

Parley Glade

We needed to be back in Winchester in a few days time for medical stuff, so decided to break our journey at Bournemouth at the site at Parley Glade. Our previous visit was enjoyable but spoilt a little by the flare up of Karen's knee problem.
This time we cycled into Bournemouth and locked the bikes up on the esplanade. We then walked along the promenade to the Jazz Cafe at Sandbanks where we shared a big ice cream before finding a sunny spot by the sea wall where we read our books.
On Saturday after chilling with the papers in the morning we walked along the River Stour in search of some kingfishers. None to be seen according to others on the river banks.
The following day we cycled down to Hengistbury where we walked across the head and around the peninsular. We parked our bikes up at the cafe area where we had our picnic, the starlings here were fearless and very interested in our food - we could have fed them by hand. Czytaj więcej

Sidmouth

We left Pont Kemys to pick up Great Granny Mac/Meg from her hotel in Abergavenny, popped into Raglan to pick up some of Kirsty's stuff she had left at the house then drove onward to Sidmouth where we planned to chill out for the next three days.
On the way we stopped off briefly at Chepstow to let GGM see Kirsty and Matt's new house.
We spent three nights in Sidmouth doing not very much at all after all the activity of the previous week.
We enjoyed a few games of scrabble with Meg in the evenings and we went out for a couple of short walks through the day. We were hoping for some beach weather but it did not materialise. Czytaj więcej

A tidying up day which started for us at 8:15am - we were soon joined by many others, who were all very willing to lend a hand. Thankfully there were so many around to help, as the whole area looked like a disaster zone when we awoke!!!
By 1:00pm all was clear, so we left the venue to return to the site at Pont Kemys feeling very weary. After a remarkable few days we felt as if we were jet lagged after a long haul flight. Czytaj więcej

Today we attended the celebration for Kirsty and Matt's wedding.
We provided a bacon and scrambled egg breakfast in the morning for all those campers who wished to join us. Then we all set to putting finishing touches to preparations started the day before. There was a lot to do, but many people offered their help, and we got everything done in plenty of time for us all to get showered and dressed in our wedding finery!!
By 11:00 am Alan was all togged up when Syd and Jo arrived to join the throng.
Syd and I drove to Raglan to pick up Kirsty -she had stayed the night at M and R's house with her bridesmaids. She was running a little late so we dressed the car in orange outside the house until she was ready for us.
I shed a tear when I saw Kirsty descend the stairs in her dress and soon we were on the road back to the celebration. The bridesmaids took a different route and were delayed for 10 minutes by cattle on the narrow country lanes - we had to wait in the car park to allow them to catch up. Kirsty took the opportunity to get some air and she arrived suitably late for the ceremony.
Matt's mate Martyn performed the ceremony in which Stewart and Will each completed a reading. It was as nice a ceremony as we had ever been to.
There was a little break for reception drinks whilst photos were being taken after which we all enjoyed a marvellous spread, put together by the caterers at such short notice, despite their oven breaking down on the morning of the event.
Speeches done we all settled down to enjoy the party. The band, fronted by Kirsty's good friend Rachael, were lively and fun and Dave, Matt's friend, put together a great dance mix which lasted past midnight.
Magnus, who was hoping to stay up until midnight, finally fell asleep in Emily's lap at 10:30 Czytaj więcej
