Heathrow, underground to Victoria. Stayed at Chester Hotel, really convenient. Explored Buckingham, change of guards, Buckingham gardens, saw a squirrel (!!), cavalry barracks, Trafalgar square, the Abbey.Read more

Megabus to Birmingham, then had an issue with flat phone and couldn't find a USB charging port anywhere! Finally got enough battery to *just* navigate the walk to backpackers. In the dark!

Bullring, church bear bullring that had had an unfortunate morning, big walk that took me into the crap part of town had me wondering why I was here. Found coffee and caramel shortbread. Town hall is fabulous although under major construction, quick trip to the library. No greenspace anywhere in the CBD!? Jet lag hit me like a tonne of bricks.Read more

Godiva's Coventry

Hopped over to Coventry on the train and wandered around the cathedrals— including a tour (which I was the only one, so private tour!) of the Priory and former cathedral built by Godiva that now lay in ruins beneath the surface. Also visited the Holy Trinity Church and saw the Doomsday painting, as well as a gorgeous turquoise ceiling I couldn't stop staring at. Onwards to the third cathedral (these are all bundled together) now in pieces after it was fire-bombed in 1918. Also saw part of the cheylesmore manor house (what remains) of 14th century. Made my way back to Birmingham for a sleep. Back to London tomorrow.Read more

50p and Portobello

Today was so cold! I spent most of the morning just wandering around Kensington trying to find warm layers to add. Gloves. Big ole scarf. My legs are so sore. I thought briefly of seeing the Natural History Museum until I saw the line. No. So I wandered up into Notting Hill which is so cute with its little coloured houses. Made my way down Portobello Road, checking out the street stall offerings and various London-themed tchotchke bits. Also had a look at Kensington Park but by the time I got there I was so tired and cold Will & Kate could have wandered by and I'd still be high-tailing it to coffee in the bundle of Holland Park. The 50p photo is from the wall of the paid loo in KP. It was filthy in there course but this little piece of graffiti made me chuckle.Read more
