Day 6 Dufton to Garrigill

15.8miles A bit of a dreich drive over to Dufton with hills in mist but a dry start. Gradual ascent up Pennine way. Into mist. Did last bit on road and very steep. The golf balls of Dun fell appeared briefly Our route took us north and down from here past many lead hushings. Softer under foot than Pennine way route. Saw and heard many birds curlew,lapwing, Pippits skylark golden plover dipper wagtail sandpiper short eared owl , wren and grouse.
Left the Tees and up a little to source of Tyne. We chose the river route with many waterfalls and some beautiful Birds Eye primrose. Then the rain started. Very heavy. And continued for the next hour till Garrigill with some close lightening. Got to a closed bit of footpath- no bridge. Thankfully a short diversion via a big waterfall and viaduct. At Garrigill we are hugely grateful for the village hall bunkhouse with drying room, kitchen etc. Camping would have been less funRead more
