Spent the morning at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Port Arthur, a former penal settlement for convicts. The entrance fee included a harbour tour with commentary, and several sites had guides giving talks. Then we visited several geological sites on the peninsula before driving back up to Richmond, near Hobart. Today we found MONA closed for refurbishment (normally just closed on Tuesdays) so went to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and the Waterfront, Salamanca Place and Arts Centre. Finished the day with a 21 km drive up to the top of Mt. Wellington 1271 m high. The views from the top were like views from a plane.Read more
