Das „Montecassino Österreichs“ – Stift Göttweig

Heute zieht es uns Richtung Donautal. Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein besuchen wir das weithin sichtbare Benediktinerstift Göttweig, das majestätisch auf dem Göttweiger Berg thront. Schon die Auffahrt bietet fantastische Ausblicke, doch oben angekommen, ist das Panorama über die Wachau und das Tullnerfeld bei diesem Wetter einfach unbeschreiblich.
Wir nehmen uns Zeit für eine Besichtigung der barocken Klosteranlage. Dave, Mary und Haley sind beeindruckt von der monumentalen Kaiserstiege mit dem prachtvollen Deckenfresko und der feierlichen Stiftskirche. Wir erfahren einiges über die fast tausendjährige Geschichte des Hauses, das seit 1083 das geistliche Zentrum dieser Region ist. Nach der Kultur genießen wir noch den weiten Blick von der Terrasse – ein Ort, an dem man wunderbar die Seele baumeln lassen kann.

The “Monte Cassino of Austria” – Göttweig Abbey

Today we’re heading towards the Danube Valley. Under a bright, sunny sky, we visit the Benedictine Abbey of Göttweig, which sits majestically atop the Göttweig hill and can be seen from miles away. The drive up already offers fantastic views, but once at the top, the panorama over the Wachau and the Tullnerfeld is simply breathtaking in this weather.
We take our time to tour the Baroque abbey complex. Dave, Mary, and Haley are impressed by the monumental Imperial Staircase with its magnificent ceiling fresco and the solemn abbey church. We learn about the nearly thousand-year history of the abbey, which has been the spiritual heart of the region since 1083.
