    A surprisingly comfy flight

    4 Mei 2025, Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

The flight turned out to be only about half full... I sat with anticipation and my knees pressed against the chair in front of me as the last few folks boarded. Only enough room under my legs for my bag, leaving little space for my feet. I hoped the center row across from me wouldn't be claimed by a late boarding passenger or an antsy one sitting near me. I asked the flight attendant if I could move and she sternly told me they weren't dont boarding yet... after biding my time and making sure the coast was clear I lept across the aisle. Staking my claim to an entire row while politely trying to look as tall as I could, hoping to dissuade any fellow seat swappers from wanting to share the precious foot room with my size 12 flippers. Alas! Lift off! Two glasses of wine, my iPad and an entire viewing of Band of Brothers and ill be in Dublin! Hopefully i get a long winded nap. That's what the wine is for.Baca lagi

  • Faro! Getting the bikes dialed

    6 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

I landed in Faro last night with just enough time to grab some dinner with Ari and hit the hay in an attempt to right my sleep schedule. Today we rode around town to make sure the bikes were all set up and feeling good. Faro is very cute and seemingly a walled city, but ill read more about that tonight. The trails around here are good, and the coastal vibe is beautiful! Everything is ready for us to start pedaling tomorrow! Tomorrow we head to Portimão, just west of Faro.Baca lagi

  • Faro to Portimãu

    7 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

The first day in the saddle can often be a bit rough. Today was no exception! But it wad nice riding for the most part. We had to contend with a few more busy roads than I like, but that was to be expected! It just made the quite back roads that much better. Portimãu was beautiful to ride in to!Baca lagi

  • Portimãu to Sagres!

    8 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Less miles and magnificent coastal views today! We passed through many cute coastal towns. We finished the day off with a nice relaxing afternoon on the beach and a hot shower which was lacking from our previous nights accommodations.Baca lagi

  • Sagres to Aljezur!

    8 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Today was a beautiful ride along the coast between Sagres and Aljezur. We found that nearly the entire region we biked today was in fact some of the best! We saw many backpackers walking a trail that connects Lisbon to Faro along the coast and we shared many of those dirt paths with them. We arrived in Aljezur in the early afternoon and got settled down. Its a cute town nestled into the hill side with an old fort looming above. We'll take a rest day here and let our legs regenerate. It turns out there is ample food, music and markets to be observed! A great place to lay low.Baca lagi

  • Aljezur to Vila Nova de Milfontes

    10 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Today had some awesome rambling cliff side trails. Lots of vista and inviting, yet inaccessible beaches (due to the 150 ft cliffs). We got an early start and made pretty good time with fresh legs coming off our rest day. Aljezur treated us wonderfully, but time to continue north along the coast towards Lisbon!Baca lagi

  • Milfontes to a teeny coastal road end

    11 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We had a relatively smooth (as in pavement) ride to our next stop. A blip on the map with nothing more than a little market, beach bar and soft sand. We'll spend our next rest day here. We're two days ride from Lisbon, with one more stop in Setubal. We've seen increasing number of backpackers, and today came across a handfull of camino trail markers. We didnt realize the camino stretched down this far! Our legs are feeling strong, so this rest day is more for the soul than for the legs. Vacation pace achieved!Baca lagi

  • To Setubal and finish in Lisbon!

    15 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

We made our destination for the bike trip! After two mild days on the bike we made it to Lisbon. We conclude our bike trip here and link up with Bella and Griffin to rent a car and head to Ari's home in Porto. We will spend the next week bopping around the Portuguese country side.Baca lagi

  • A few snapshots of our road trip!

    17 Mei 2025, Portugal ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

We arrived in Lisbon and met up with out two friends Bella and Griffin. We spent two days in the city, bopping around somewhat aimlessly. No one was quite sure what to make of it, other than it being a rather large beautiful city. Without much local knowledge we ended up hitting town for dinner at exactly the wrong time. We proceeded to get rejected at every spot we tried! Eventually we managed to get some food, but not until nearly 11. Granted in Europe dinner is often late! After two days we rented a car and headed up to Ari's home in Porto! Porto is absolutely stunning. And bopping around the town with Ari and Dani who both live here felt much smoother. We stayed two days at their cute home across the river from Porto and just left for 4 days road tripping across the country side! We drove up and over the highest point in portugal (Serra de Estrella) on our way out to Monsanto which is a 15m drive from the Spanish border. Its absolutely beautiful out here! We will stay two nights in Monsanto, an old town built into the hillside with a fort perched above. Or atleast there was a fort before the munitions stored inside blew it to pieces in the 1800's. Alas! We will explore the ruins tomorrow!Baca lagi
