    To Airlie Beach

    On the road to Airlie Beach today, we had a lunch stop at Ayr maccas then a quick stop at the Gumlu Big Pumpkin and Bowen Big Mango. Arrived at the caravan park around 3, it's huge with a water park, putt putt etc, very family oriented, it's nice. We set up, went for a walk then I had a nap, pretty tired from those bubbles last night. We chilled in the camp kitchen for a bit, cooked dinner and had a chat with a couple who have been travelling for 7 months from Victoria, but they're on their way home now as the weather has been so up and down, they're ready for home now. Showered and netflix before bed.Læs mere

    Airlie Beach and Cedar Creek Falls

    Up and moving this morning, popped into woolies for a few groceries and more bottled water. We did the Turtle boardwalk then headed right into Airlie for a bite to eat at Sidewalk Cafe. Went for a walk to check out the lagoon then on the road to Cedar Creek falls. It was too fresh to swim, but we walked to the top of the falls and climbed around up there for a while. Pretty cool spot, would be great to swim here in summer. Kept heading south and we've realised that the chip in the windscreen has finally started to grow, hoping we'll be right until we get home but it's definitely on the move. Lasted all of the corrugations and 4wd tracks, but couldn't possibly handle a cool night in Airlie Beach 🙄Læs mere

    Mackay

    Next stop was Lamberts lookout in North Mackay, damn cold and windy! We found the lighthouse down on the marina, there are a bunch of eateries there, looked nice. Then we just headed for The Park. One of the ladies I used to work with lives in Mackay and we were waiting to see what time she knocked off work and if she'd be available with her kids and everything for a catch up or dinner, so we delayed setting up and just relaxed for a bit. Got stuck with a number of semi/permanent residents of the caravan park. Lovely people, but they didn't know when to move on? We hadn't heard anything from Megan so we set up, got organised and had dinner. The hockey finals were tonight so I was getting updates from the girls and zoomed in to watch the shootouts, our Y2 team won their game, then my team Y1 won ours afterwards which is fantastic! Means my team goes straight through to the grand final on the 17th. Y2 still have to win their game next Monday to get through and verse us. See how it goes! We watched some netflix and went to bed.Læs mere

    Capricorn Caves

    A bit of rain overnight but nothing too major. Heading towards Rockhampton today, but realised we needed fuel first. Fueled up then stopped half an hour down the road at Sarina to get a photo of the big cane toad. We then plugged in the directions to our midday tour at Capricorn Caves and realised we were cutting it a bit fine. Due to arrive at 11:56, not allowing for the caravans and trucks we often get stuck behind. There was some aggressive but safe overtaking from Ben, lucky plenty of opportunities to get around them and surprisingly we didn't get caught much with the roadwork. We made it to our tour at 11:49, heaaaps of time haha. Cass was our tour guide, she was lovely and entertaining. We did the cathedral tour. In the actual cathedral part, she played some music so we could really grasp the acoustics. It was amazing. Cass did give us the opportunity to sing, but warned that Kasey Chambers was the last one to sing in here a few weeks ago, so we'd have a lot to live up to. No one in the tour decided to give it a crack haha. It was a great spot, a few other tour options we'd like to try another time.Læs mere

    The Criterion Hotel Motel

    Down the road to Rockhampton, we stopped at the Criterion for lunch. It's their historic pub, with lots of famous visitors coming and going. Ben of course had a casual 400g steak for lunch, not the peasant 250g. I had a seafood pasta, both meals were bloody good! We went for a short walk around the Riverside precinct. We really liked the feel of Rockhampton from the parts we saw, definitely coming back one day.Læs mere

    To Yeppoon

    We're staying at an NRMA caravan in Yeppoon tonight. But first we stopped at woolies for supplies, then on to our campground. Another great spot and the weather was lovely. We went for a walk, hoping to spot the 2 local emus, no luck today. As soon as the sun went down it was verrry cold from the wind. Just the usual, cooked dinner, showers, a bit of netflix and bed.
    Feeling a bit sad that after tonight we only have 2 more nights of camping. It's been really fun! But of course looking forward to a bed for a few nights.    Læs mere

    Breakfast and a quick stop in Gladstone

    Had breakfast at Ocean Brew cafe this morning, coffee and breaky wraps. A bird wouldn't leave us alone, it kept jumping on the table and chairs. It was a pretty bird, pretty annoying Ben says. We attempted to go to Mount Archer this morning and do the skywalk, but google maps sent us to a no through road. All of the mountains we could see had a ring of clouds around them, so we decided we'd just keep moving anyway. We were hoping to catch up with Curly in Gladstone, one of Ben's mates from work, but his little fella had an appointment today, so we missed him. Popped into Gladstone anyway for fuel and guzmannnnn it's not far off the main highway. We realised that this is the longest we've gone without Guzman, whoops.Læs mere

    1770 and Agnes Water

    Next was the longest 90 minute drive in a while, damn it dragged on, heading to 1770. We stopped at the Paperbark forest boardwalk in Agnes Water. Not quite what we were expecting, but a good spot to stretch our legs. We checked into our accommodation, but because we have a tour this afternoon, we didn't set up, we went exploring instead. First was Bustard Bay lookout, then the monument where Captain Cook first came ashore in 1770 (believe it or not). This is the only town in Australia who's name is a number.Læs mere

    1770 LARC tour

    Checked in a bit early to our LARC tour, but the lady directed us around to a bar on the marina while we waited, perfect. Our tour guide was Jess, she let us know later that her surname is Cook and her dad was pretty excited when she first got her skippers ticket/licence. She also laughed about how its probably the only reason she got the job. The LARC is an ex military vehicle, it doesn't stand for land and river craft, of course Ben knew it stands for Lighter, Amphibious, Resupply, Cargo. So basically, boat/truck, ha! We did the 1 hour tour, we did get a little longer as the tide was really high so we had to go a bit slower at parts because we were in the water for longer than usual. Lots of sandbanks and lots of great stories from Jess. It was a great tour, when we come back, we'd be keen on doing the whole day tour I think. When we landed, we noticed that the fish and chip shop was open and there was a massive line up. However we'd planned to have dinner at the tree bar, just up the road. We went for a drink, but realised they'd changed their menu to what was online, so we headed back and had the delicious fish and chips instead. Back to camp to quickly set up, shower, avoid the damn rain and watch some netflix before bed.Læs mere

    Bundaberg Barrel

    Moving quickly this morning as we have a tasting booked at the Bundaberg barrel at 10am and we were an hour an a half away. Made it with heaps of time, even with a bit of roadwork. When we arrived, we found out that we got to take home 6 soft drinks each and that we could mix and match. First we went through the virtual brewery. There was info about the history and processes. There was also a smell test, where you had a sniff and had to guess which of the 14 flavours you could smell. It was pretty cool! We lined up for our tasting, Grace was our bar person and she was great, one of her strengths being suggesting what alcohol we mix with each flavour. She said she tested it for work purposes only.. We got try all 14 flavours and take home a mixed 12 pack. We decided against the Christmas spiced ginger beer and the sarsaparilla. They weren't bad at all, just easy ones to cull compared to the rest. Ben said it was very different to last time he went with you guys.Læs mere
