    Off to New Jersey

    Left shortly after 10:00am for Passport Health at Shrewsbury New Jersey which was the only place I could schedule a Civid test within the 48hr departure period required by the Nigerian government.

    Fuel was less than a quarter tank on take off, thought I would see on the route but after some miles of not seeing a fuel station we panicked and got off the route and parked by the shoulder and reprogrammed the car navigation to plot a route to the nearest fuel station which incidentally was 3 mins away. A $30 refill resulted in an almost full tank thereafter we continued the trip to Shrewsbury arriving just before noon.    Baca lagi

    Passport Health

    Eventhough we had almost an hour to our 1:00pm appointment we decided to go look for the office after parking by the office block the navigator took us to. Apparently there are a lot of medical practices in the building including a clinic.

    Passport Health was located on the 2nd floor (Americans count ground floor as 1st floor). We told the lady at the front desk we had an appointment, she checked and confirmed on her system, told us to sit down and wait, later she gave us a form to fill some basic information and make payment. The covid test was quite expensive $280/person but result comes out quickly. She then called us into the office and took a nasal swab.

    Unlike the nasal swab we did in Nigeria this was done mid nose, the lady was scrubbing around the mid nose with a lot of pressure and took both nose.

    By 12:09 we were both done and result came out by 12:45    Baca lagi

    Spider Man

    Visited AMC to watch the new spiderman movie with the girls. Had to repark the car from Rite Aid where I left it to a paid parking behind the cinema.

    Returning the Rental Car

    Quite a tensed 30min to get to the airport, return the car and check into the flight. I misjudged the time we had to spend in town which resulted in last minute rush and anxiety. The roads were a bit busy in some areas but eventually we got to Philadelphia International Airport at 15:03 to return the car. A bus took us from the car rental yard to the airport terminal where Lufthansa checkin is done.Baca lagi

    Departing USA

    Very short checkin queue at the Lufthansa desk in terminal A, within 10 minutes we were checked in all the way to Port Harcourt. Thereafter we had a 2hr wait to board the plane. Boarding commenced at 17:15. Plane was half empty. Flight was smooth. The onboard entertainment system was sluggish and very unresponsive, I watched Free Guy and a bit of Space Jam, slept a bitBaca lagi

    Stop over In Germany

    Arrived Frankfurt airport about 7:10am. Weather was good although a bit chilly. Walked a bit before taking the bus to terminal B where the PH flight takes off from. Had Baguette classic (hard crusty bread with cheese, ham and cucumber) with hot chocolate while Uddy had hotdog with hit chocolate. I didn't finish my breakfast as the bread was too crusty and hurting my gum.Baca lagi

    Departing Frankfurt

    Boarded at 10:45am. Plane is full of Nigerians, few foreigners. It is a direct flight to Nigeria with a stop over in Abuja before continuing to Port Harcourt.

    Changed our mask wearing a new N95. Maximum protection for spending 7hrs in an enclosed space with hundreds of people.Baca lagi

    Faulty plane ... returning to Europe

    The pilot announced around 16:15 that the ACS (Anti Collision System) of the plane has failed as such we were flying blind and no other aircraft could see us, consequently it was unsafe for us to continue the flight and he will be turning around to take us back to Europe. We eventually landed in Rome at about 18:20

    The captained announced that another plane was being sent from Germany to take us back to Frankfurt, but our checked in luggage will remain on board and will be brought over to Frankfurt on another plane

    The relief plane arrived as scheduled and passengers were transferred into it. The plane was a smaller Airbus A320-200. Relief plane departed Rome Airport at 21:05 and landed in Frankfurt at 22:33    Baca lagi

    Sleepover at Frankfurt Airport

    Lufthansa had promised to keep us overnight in a hotel, only for us to get to the airport and immigration told us we couldn't go into town because we don't have schiengen visa after much argument we were given a shower ticket and told to get one of the loungers around gate B41 to pass the night.

    In Abuja

    Landed in Abuja at 2mins to 6pm. We passed our yesterday turn back point at about 16:20hrs. Flight was smooth. The folks around me had some interesting political discussions throughout the flight. Layover in Abuja will be 45mins before we continue to PH

    Finally landed in Port Harcourt

    Arrived Port Harcourt after a 45min flight from Abuja. Haven started the journey 2 days earlier. On exiting the plane we walked past a temperature scanner to detect who might be ill, after which Port Health officials checked our predeparture Covid test and permit to travel. I had mine stored on my phone as I had no means of printing them in Philly. Once satisfied they issued a clearance slip to present to immigration which was the next stage.

    Joined the immigration queue, 1st desk was called clearance where an immigration officer collects the covid clearance then scans your passport on the computer before clearing you to proceed to the next immigration desk to have the entry stamp placed on your passport after which you proceed to the baggage carousel to pick your bags. I got a cart and a Potter to carry and push my luggage out towards the scanner and load them all onto the scanner conveyor belt,, before reloading onto the cart and heading towards the exit where customs officials were standing to intercept everyone and extort some money failure to corporate leads to being asked to open your bag and further attempts at harassment all in the aim of getting some money off the passenger.

    Eventually I exited the terminal and was sorrounded by taxi drivers offering their service. My brother was there to pick me so I didn't need them.    Baca lagi

    Finally home

    Drive home was mostly smooth until we got to the roundabout leading to Eliozu expressway. Driving in Nigeria needs some level of craziness as against what I experienced driving in America during the past 4 weeks. One needs to continuously move aggressively to get right of way, there were a few crash misses avoided by sharp reflex. I eventually got home at 21:41hrs and was welcomed home by my domestic staff.

    Had a sumptuous meal of eba and Afang soup.
