After Chimborazo we were happy to dramatically reduce the altitude on our way to Banos, which is located on 1800m above sea level.

We took the route via Riobamba and had to get through the extremely crowded city centre. It felt taking forever, next time I would give the alternative route via Ambato a try as Riobamba did not show us any attractions apart from the heavy traffic.

After Riobamba the exciting part started with passing by on both sides of huge valleys with the motorbike. Great fun!

In Banos we stayed in “Casa de Campo de Descanso” a beautiful family run bed and breakfast on top of the steep valley with nature all around and astonishing views on Banos and the majestic volcano Tungurahua.

One day we went up to the action park “Manos del Dios”, which was really fun and recommendable to take some nice shots. The other day we rented bicycles and went down the route of the waterfalls spotting five of them before arriving at the famous Pailon de Diablo, which was definitely a highlight experiencing the massive amounts and speed of the water there.

We really loved the location of Banos in the valley and the sheer endless outdoor options. Be aware though that the traffic on weekends in Banos is super chaotic. The transport from Pailon de Diablo back to Banos took us nearly 3h for a normal 30min drive!
