In Budapest after checking in at the office, I had to walk 15 minutes to my appartement - situated in a residence. After that, I walked along the Danube to the Parlament.

  • 6. Kiskunsági-Nationalpark

    September 8, 2024 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Booked a bird watching tour with Hungarianbirdwatching. My guide Gábor picked me up early in the morning at the Synagogue, where we left to the Kiskunsági-Nationalpark, +-1 hour away from Budapest.
This nationalpark is part of the Hungarian puszta and contains ponds, wetlands, treeless plains and steppes.
We observed over 60 different birds: Some species could be observed up close (Roller, Red-footed falcon), others were unfortunately only visible from a greater distance (Great Bustard). We saw even 3 different eagle species.

As it was outside the observation season and the Great Bustard was far away from us, I have to return some day during the breeding season!
We returned in the afternoon to Budapest.

After a pizza, I did a sightseeing boat tour on the Danube to see Budapest and its buildings by night.

  • 7. Budapest (Part 2)

    September 9, 2024 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Rainy day and first time on my trip, that the temperatures were under 30° for the whole day.
Started at the "Heldenplatz", a monument dedicated for all the people who fought for a free Hungary. Sadly, the monument was being renovated.
So I continued with the Vajdahunyad vára, a beautiful small castle situated in a parc.

As the rain was not so heavy and I wasn't motivated to visit a museum, I spent a lot of the day at the Budapest Zoo.

Finally, I visited the beautiful St. Stephans basilica with a beautiful view from its terrace.

  • 8. Budapest (Part 3)

    September 10, 2024 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Good weather again, I did go back to the castle district. On the top off the Maria-Magdalena-Church (Buda Tower), inside the Matthias church (that was already closed when I was there two days ago) and on the terrace of the Fisherman's bastion. After a Hungarian sausage in a Beergarden (where they played german songs, even Fääschtbänkler), I tooked the tram direction "Géllertberg". The citadel on the top of this hill is being renovated (second national monument that is being renovated during my Budapest-trip), however the views over the city were amazing.

Closed the day with a Lángos, a traditional hungarian food.

After checking-out, I had enough time to stop at the Opera building and to visit the "House of Terror", a museum showing the history of Hungary during the occupation of the Nazis and Communists.
Really shocking was, that the house were the museum is situated, is the real house were the shocking doings of the terror regimes really took place.

After I picked up my luggage, I took the Airport Bus to the airport of Budapest and returned to Luxembourg in the afternoon.
