Birdsville Tourist Park

Have come in this Monday morning, selected our camp site in the 'All year unpowered sites' which are closer to amenities and is not going to get as boggy if it turns wet (apparently Sat got rain forecast - that's when we move to Bashville....!)
Went for a walk together, checked out the Roadhouse shop - got good basic grocery items (costly of course) then went to the Hardware store (near bakery) to get a few items, including a hose connector for our neighbour (Common campground) Darren - who has started his Bash volunteer work today and would miss the opening times for this shop. Walk back to our site and make some lunch, open toasties for both of us. Go for another stroll to deliver the connector to Darren's camp and then come back and look around our Park's amenities again. Rog does a book exchange. Later in the afternoon we go for a walk to the Birdsville Cemetery (decent walk) then back to our camp to get organised for tea. Yummy beef tacos tonight!
Tuesday morning sees me get up and go for a shuffle (run) while Roger walks to the Bakery for bread and a cuppa. When I'm back we finish our breakfast and go put on a couple of loads of laundry. While washing happening we take it in turns to go to the Birdsville Community Hall to register and collect our volunteer packs. Lunch is finishing off leftovers, Rog the tacos, me the last of the Farina fruit loaf - toasted. Relax for a while, then fold part of washing that's dry - before both of us go back to the Community Hall for the General volunteer training 3pm. Once this is finished I stay on for Road Marshal training (very basic - don't touch or walk in front of vehicles!!). Main thing I got from the training was know how to use the app and keep up to date with info. Back to our caravan, finish of putting away washing. Tea tonight chops, gravy and panfried veggies. Roger gets organised for his work shift tomorrow.
Wednesday morning sees Roger gone by 7.15am for his 8am start out at Bashville. I stay put, relax have breakie, shower and potter about caravan. Lunch for me a couple of toasties, Roger packed sandwiches and snacks for his. My afternoon spent quietly sorting through caravan cupboards, then a short walk checking out all the arrivals.
Rog gets back from his 1st shift around 4.30pm. He's happy with his work, and likes his manager and the other 3 crew he was working with. Enjoy a beer and some cheese and bickies, before he goes for a shower. Tea preparation next... Florries and salad, followed by apple crumble.
Thursday morning sees us have a sleep in before we get up after 8am. I go for my shuffle - check out Burke and Will's tree and do a lap of the Birdsville Racecourse. Come back to camp and decide to hold off on breakie, go for a shower. Roger has had breakfast, been to the Hardware shop to get a pipe fitting to fix our broken (from Birdsville Track we guess) grey water drainage. Fixed that, then gone to Birdsville Medical Clinic to have his ear looked at - giving him some grief. Good report from clinic, very helpful, reassured Roger that his ear is on track for recovery. Next we walk to the Bakery to have a Curried Camel pie each - very nice! Walk back to camp via Information Centre so I can pick up free waste bags. Relax for a while before Roger decides he like to go post a letter - I go for the walk too, end up going to the Birdsville Hotel, enjoy a drink and a good look around. Back to camp, tea preparation for crumbed pork chops and stir-fry veggies. Followed by preserved pears with cream/yoghurt. Big Red Bash has put out a 'call out' for any available volunteers to help out with extra shifts tomorrow - Rog has said yes - so he'll come along with me on my 1st shift 😊❤️
Friday morning sees us up having our breakfast and getting ourselves sorted to head out to Bashville for my 1st shift and Roger's help out extra shift. We leave 9am and arrive with plenty of time to 'get lay of land' and be 'signed in' for our shifts. Mine Campround Entry Road Marshal - very close to Volunteer Hub and I can see Big Red Stage in the distance 😍 Very happy with my work position, and it's very cruisie job today, not too much 'roll in' happening here today. Mainly vendors and some volunteers. Rog kept busy with 'fencing' - reckons he worked harder than his 1st shift...
After I finish my shift (relieved early) I sit at Vol Hub and have my sandwich Rog packed for us - until Rog finishes his shift. We drive back into Birdsville to our camp. Both have showers and relax about the place. Plenty of chats with other campers - most going to Big Red Bash.
Our tea tonight, sausage stovetop casserole, Roger makes up using some of his plum sauce and homegrown veggies - very nice!
Happy to have a quiet night.
Saturday morning - time to get ourselves to Bashville. Have breakfast, have showers, Roger way before me...so Roger filling up caravan water storage etc while I'm showering. We're on the move and out of the caravan park by 9am. Roger does a quick vegetable shop/stock up from Birdsville Roadhouse - then we're Bashville bound......Читать далее
