Arrive at Kakadu Lodge, check in and go to our 2 bedroom cabin No. 25. Settle in - very happy as air-conditioning already on, so we are in a nice comfortable environment when it's 39° outside.
We've got 5 of us staying here, Roger and I in a queen room, Norma and Alison in the other bedroom that has 3 single beds (1 bunk bed and a single), Ronnie happy to sleep in the lounge area - either on the couch, or move out a single bed mattress from Norma and Alison's room.
Once we've settled in, I go for a quick walk to suss out the pool and bar/dining area - all good! Meet the others who are ready to go for a swim heading to this area, I'll meet them there in a while - I'll catch up on this journal 1st. I run out of battery on my mobile so leave it to recharge and go and join the rest of my crew at the pool. We're here for Happy Hour so Alison and I have a couple of cocktails (Apple Melon Fizz - Midori, Tequila, apple juice and soda) while Norma enjoys her red wine, and the 'boys' stick with their beers. We all head back to our cabin to wait for Gary to arrive once he finishes work, he's coming along to have tea with us. No sooner have we got back, we get a call from Gary wondering where we are, as he's arrived at the pool/bar/dining area! Norma goes to Gary and brings him back to our cabin. Have a quick drink, then we all head over to have tea. We settle ourselves at a nice spot at a long table on the lawn, discussing what we'll order (I've already sussed out menu - tossing up between chicken parma or calamari). I'm hungry as I had quite a light lunch (piece of pull apart ham & cheese bread and an apple). Next thing I know, we've got a staff member telling us 'very sorry, we're not doing any more meals this evening', they had already been serving meals, but the chef/cook has become crook and stopped cooking. Oh dear......as I'm still in my bathers I go and get changed to be ready for our next tea plans. When I rejoin the others, Kevin, a good friend of Gary's has arrived, so Gary happy to stay put and have a good catch up with him, while the rest of us go find some tea. As we've all been enjoying some drinks (later we realise Norma had only had one drink and would've been fine to drive) it's decided it should be a place within walking distance. General consensus by those with the knowledge (Gary and Ronnie) is that Kakadu Crocodile Hotel is the closest, well as I'm ready to eat I make the move to get going (otherwise I can see the 'boys' are settled drinking and we'll miss food serving times!). Norma, Alison, Ronnie, Rog and I go walking (Rog changes from his bathers on the way past our cabin) - and 20 minutes later (after lots of fun banter on the way) we turn up at 'Croc Hotel' - turns out to be the 'high end' of fine dining in Jabiru. Oh well as it's now 7.20pm, we resign ourselves to the 'long wait' to eat - we can't be seated at a table until 8pm. We have a drink and sit near the bar area. When we get our table we order immediately - then have the wait staff return to let us know that 3 of us can't have the meals we ordered (the same dish double cooked chicken 'Papparella') - so we reorder, all having different now - except Roger and Ronnie both having the kangaroo dish. While waiting for our meals, Roger does one of his 'sneezes', which results in scaring wait staff and gets a round of applause from neighbouring tables (in sympathy for the scares I think). Anyway, we end up fed (expensively so) - with the fellas agreeing it's the best roo they've eaten, just not enough of it! We do the return walk to our cabin, back before 10pm. Drinks (cuppas etc) then bed.
Monday morning sees us up, getting our own breakfasts (we've brought with us) and a couple of us having showers (me too). Alison and Norma have decided it would be good if we could check out one of the Falls that is suitable for swimming this morning. We're all happy with that idea. It works out that Jim Jim Falls are our closest approx. 100km away. We pack up and off we go leaving around 8am.Leer más
