• Kununurra Town Caravan Park WA

    14–18 Sep 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Book in for 4 nights - get Site 23, which may be 'snuggly fit' for us we're told. Once Roger has our caravan in our chosen position- unless we're reading the map incorrectly - we've got plenty of room - yep we've got plenty of room for the 2 of us! Once we're set up, it's around lunchtime so Roger makes up his meat and salad sandwiches and I do my open toasties - relish, meat and cheese. We relax for abit, before going for a drive to go to the Tourist Information Centre, then replenish on fresh vegetables and fruit with a grocery shop at Coles. We also try calling at the WA Rangers to organise our WA Parks Passes - annoyed no one there - until we remembered it's a Saturday afternoon. We also fueled up the ute, Roger happy $1.87 litre. Head back to our caravan and put away groceries. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and keeping ourselves cool with dunks in the swimming pool. Tea tonight is silverside and vegetables with mustard sauce (Thermomix) followed by a Cadbury block of chocolate (we share). Tidy up and Roger is happy to get to bed, as we're planning an early start in the morning. I stay up a while, doing my budgeting books and checking on bills.
Sunday morning has us waking up at 4am from Roger's alarm. Early start as we're doing a 8km walk in Keep River National Park (back in NT) and we want to beat the real heat of the day. We have porridge for breakfast, Roger has toast as well. Roger has made and packed our lunches (cold corn beef and salad sandwiches). We get organised for our day out - morning doing walks, afternoon checking out Lake Argyle and having a swim.
Enjoy our day out - come back into Kununurra and fuel up, then buy a loaf of bread before going back to our caravan. Time to unpack from our outing, relax and have another cool down in the pool here. Tea tonight is cold silverside and salad, followed by Thermomix rice pudding. We've had our showers, so we tidy up and settle for the night.
Monday morning sees us up fairly early - just after 6.30am, have our breakfast, tidy up and get ready to go out for most of the day. We're going to have a look about Wyndham. Head off just after 8am.
After we return from being out and about, we do a small grocery shop at Coles, then head back to our caravan to unpack from the day out. Swim time next, great to relax in the pool. Get chatting with others, one young woman has just done the same tour we've got booked for Horizontal Falls - totally awesome she tells us, her and her partner had the most 'magic' time. Yep we're excited! Another lady (our age, maybe older..) Kathryn from Kyneton, travelling by herself (ute and caravan) - a nurse who does bloods (takes blood - lobot) enjoyed a nice chat. Back to our caravan, time for showers. Then tea, heat up leftovers - silverside, vegetables and mustard sauce and Roger does some airfryer potato chips to go with as well. Finish off the previous night's creamed rice. Relaxing before clean up. Have cuppas, do dishes, relax until bedtime.
Well it rained overnight so we get up (6.30am) to quite a change in weather! Today's highest expected temp is 26° - compared to 40° yesterday, I end up wearing trackies and long sleeve top today. We're having a day around camp today... We have a cook up breakfast, bacon and eggs on toast with relish, avocado, tomato, cooked mushrooms and topped with goats cheese YUM. I strip and change our bedding, Roger cleans and washes our floor. I get 2 loads of washing happening $4 a load, while Roger continues cleaning bits and pieces of the caravan. He has packed away our awning - quite windy this morning. Once the washing is finished we get it hung out on the clothesline - going to be a slow drying day. Next we go for a walk about Kununurra shops - enjoy having a look about and getting a few odds and ends we're after. Do a small grocery shop in Coles, couldn't get dry ginger ale soft drink we were after (for mixer) - so I figure I'll go for another walk later and try the IGA supermarket. For now we're content to head back to our van for lunch. I cook up a couple of corn cobs on the BBQ - they're in their husks, which I peeled back and put butter and seasoning on the corn before recovering with their outer covering to cook them in. Get the outside quite dark (1/2hr on BBQ - turning).
Now we relax around camp, Roger reading, I work on getting our rates set up to pay via online banking. Then I go for another wander down the street. I go and post a card with a glasses holder brooch (I purchased this morning) to Lorraine Hunt for her 80th birthday. Next to IGA for the ginger ale, then to gift shop near Coles to purchase book 'The El Quatro Story' by Meg Hornabrook. Head back to our camp and have a relax before making tea in the Thermomix - a mince pasta, using a jar of Roger's pasta sauce. Roger has got our washing in, so I fold and put away. After tea Roger washes the dishes and goes for a shower. I write up our budget books then dry and put away dishes before bed. A bit disappointed this evening - at the end of our stay here and I've just discovered we have missed our chance to visit a local distillery 'Hoochery' - oh well hope I get the opportunity to do this on another trip this way.
Wednesday 18 Sept has us up early - thanks to Rog's alarm. 5.30am sees us having our breakfast, muesli and yoghurt for me, weetbix and toast for Roger, and getting ready to walk in the Bungle Bungles today - hence dressed in long sleeves, shorts and sturdy footwear (runners for me). We're tidied and packed up - driving out of Kununurra around 6.30am.
