    July 31 in Ecuador ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

This morning after breakfast we went for a 3 hour walk through the forest nearby the lodge. We learnt a lot about traditional uses for different plants and insects, and even tried a small citrus flavoured ant the locals eat (does this mean we’re no longer vegetarian?) 😬 The lodge provided us with gumboots, and thank goodness they did as the water reached almost to the top of them on some sections of the walk 😅 Afterwards we enjoyed some free time at the lodge, swimming in the river and relaxing by the river. Each afternoon around sunset we returned to Laguna Grande, along with boats from each of the other lodges along the river. It was too cold for a swim but still nice relaxing in the boat as we waited for the sun to set for our night walk along a nearby trail. During the walk we came up close and personal with plenty of creepy crawlies, and stopped at a point along the equator which was pretty cool. On our boat ride back to the lodge we also spotted a small boa and a huge caiman which our guide spotted from incredibly far away, immediately identifying it as a caiman despite the fact that all he could see at that point was the a red eye reflecting back in his torchlight 😵Read more
