9/8 San Cristobal day 5

Today we had booked the Kicker Rock snorkel tour, which started out a bit stressful but was fine in the end! We had asked when we first booked if they would supply weight belts, as it’s really hard to dive down without them. They said yes, but just as we were about to leave on the morning of we asked and they said they don’t rent them out to snorkellers 🙄 Thankfully we had rented one previously from a lovely woman just around the corner so we ran over to her and grabbed a couple, then got on our way. Along the boat ride we saw two big pods of dolphins and even a few orcas!! Our first snorkel was at a little beach we can’t remember the name of, but it should probably be called Playa Tortuga because there were turtles EVERYWHERE! After that we ate some lunch on board, went for a little walk around the beach to spot some Blue Footed Boobies, then headed off to Kicker Rock. Sadly the visibility wasn’t great, maybe 5-10m max. The resident hammerheads we were hoping to see usually stay at about 30m depth so while they were probably swimming underneath us they were out of our sight 😢 But the coral along the vertical rock face was still very cool, with lots of little fish and other critters living there. Very cool swimming in the channel between the two rocks, the current just about pushed you through, no paddling needed 😅 We got back at about 4pm completely exhausted, and headed straight to our hotel for a big nap before dinner on the rooftop of our hotel, where we were treated to a beautiful sunset!!Read more
