Up early for coach to Bled. Walked to bus station, got snacks and croissant and boarded 9am bus. Cost about €12 each and took 70-80 mins to get there. Very scenic route.
Arrived in Bled and walked up to castle to start, we went anti-clockwise round lake. Walk up was super steep but it was early and not too hot so ideal time to do it. Views were beautiful. Came down and walked round to top side of lake where we stopped and had a beer (pre lunchtime!)
Walked round to boat hire place where we hired rowing boat €10 for an hour. Rowed to middle of lake with church on but the rowing was super interesting! Turns out I've never rowed a boat and didn't know how to do it. It's way harder than it looks. I rowed on way out and we had strong cross wind that kept pushing us further off course and I freaked out that we'd get stranded in middle of lake. Eventually made it to pontoon, got off and walked round island and saw beautiful steps up and church bell tower. Elisa rowed back much more successfully than I did, and we made it back in one piece. The photos don't truly show how stressed we were 😂.
Needed a beer immediately after this so went to get beer and had chips after. Carried on walking round and next stop much further round was traditional cafe on lake edge with Bled creme cake (like a custard slice with layer of cream as well) and we had tea there.
Walked round to start of lake again, found the heart on the lake and took some photos, and had coke in cute cafe while we waited for bus back.Read more
