    Lake Bled

    May 19, 2017 in Slovenia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Up early for coach to Bled. Walked to bus station, got snacks and croissant and boarded 9am bus. Cost about €12 each and took 70-80 mins to get there. Very scenic route.

Arrived in Bled and walked up to castle to start, we went anti-clockwise round lake. Walk up was super steep but it was early and not too hot so ideal time to do it. Views were beautiful. Came down and walked round to top side of lake where we stopped and had a beer (pre lunchtime!)

Walked round to boat hire place where we hired rowing boat €10 for an hour. Rowed to middle of lake with church on but the rowing was super interesting! Turns out I've never rowed a boat and didn't know how to do it. It's way harder than it looks. I rowed on way out and we had strong cross wind that kept pushing us further off course and I freaked out that we'd get stranded in middle of lake. Eventually made it to pontoon, got off and walked round island and saw beautiful steps up and church bell tower. Elisa rowed back much more successfully than I did, and we made it back in one piece. The photos don't truly show how stressed we were 😂.

Needed a beer immediately after this so went to get beer and had chips after. Carried on walking round and next stop much further round was traditional cafe on lake edge with Bled creme cake (like a custard slice with layer of cream as well) and we had tea there.

Walked round to start of lake again, found the heart on the lake and took some photos, and had coke in cute cafe while we waited for bus back.

  • Brunch and wandering

    May 20, 2017 in Slovenia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Went for brunch in Le Petit Cafe, had Eggs Benedict - standard!

Sky's were grey today compared to yesterday, went for walk into Tivoli Park, massive green space. Started to rain but luckily had big umbrellas from apartment.

Went to shops and bought Slovenian chocolate for work and went to Pandora shop but they don't make a slovenian charm yet so didn't get one! Headed back to apartment for a nap and chill out

  • Slovenian Dinner

    May 20, 2017 in Slovenia ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

The rain was incessant so we headed for some wine and shelter. Had 3 wines in Soba 102, totalling only €7 each! We had to guess which ones and one came out like a very dark rose and cold!

Then headed for dinner at Sestica, a truly traditional Slovenian food restaurant, had spicy sausage and mushroom soup in a bread bowl to start, then had beef goulash and pork tenderloin with amazing gnocchi but not as we know it! Like a lasagne with cottage cheese sandwiched between thin layers, it was amazing! Also had some table red wine at only €1.40 for a tiny jug! Amazing meal! The waiter was wearing traditional slovenian waistcoat.Read more
