    Wanaka to Kingston via Queenstown

    November 30, 2024 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Shortish but spectacular drive over the mountains to Queenstown. Its very much the resort tourist town with all the extreme sports, especially water sports in Lake Wakatipu. We are here for a trip on the 1912 vintage steamer. It's a beautiful boat, still genuinely burning coal (14 tonnes a day). Have a look at the sheep station across the lake. Saw some trout in the lake at the dock the boat left from.
Then down the hilly, winding road to Kingston, population 385 for the night. As usual in a spectacular location nestled in snow capped (only just) mountains.
