    March 24 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

So, the real holiday begins. Back on the M6 to Scotland. Along the banks of Loch Lomond through the valleys and mountains of Glencoe to Fort William.
I've just had the most delicious seafood dinner in a long while. Hence, the obligatory food photo.Read more

  • High mountain passes to costal paths.

    March 25 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

We took a fabulous mountainside trek up through the gorge to a lovely high valley with amazing waterfalls.
I didn't quite have the nerve to cross the river on the rope bridge..... too high and the water too deep.
After lunch, we headed west to the coast to explore some lovely white sandy beaches.

  • From the highlands to the islands

    March 26 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

On to the next leg of the road trip. We followed the Highland routes through passes and along lochs to the island of Skye.
We paused at Eileen Donnan Castle just before the bridge over to Skye. Then, a quick pit stop at Sligachan Bridge, which is just like any other bridge, really, then on to The Fairy pools, which were actually quite pretty, even in the mist.
Finally, we found a gold mine of a pub by the Talisker distilery on the banks of Loch Harport for an amazing bowl of Cullen skink. Yum!

  • Blown away 🌬🌧

    March 27 in Scotland ⋅ 🌬 9 °C

Well, today was a truly wild and blustery day. Horizontal rain and high winds while climbing up to the Old Man of Storr.
A well-deserved hot coffee and a big fat chocolate cake in Portree were very welcome.
We did venture out later in even higher winds to explore more of the North East Coast and fight the mighty wind to see Kilt Rock Waterfall.

  • Over the sea from skye

    March 28 in Scotland ⋅ 🌬 7 °C

It was a bit of a pottery day today. We had some time to kill before our crossing to Harris.
There is a fairy glen neer Uig, a small and magical feature of the Island, dotted with gnarled rowan trees and terrain formed over 100,000 years ago by post-Glacier landslides and years of erosion by the elements which have sculpted the Torridonian sandstone into unusual patterns of cone-shaped craggy hillocks.
We also found a waterfall in a nearby wood.
The crossing to Harris was bracing but sunny. We spent most of the time outside in the element's, watching the islands and dramatic weather. Sunshine, rain, and rainbiws over the sea.
Oh, and the distillery was straight off the boat. 😆🥃

  • Wet and wild

    March 29 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

Well, it's a truly wet and wild day today. The bitter wind is gusting over 50mph, and the rain is icy cold.
So why not go to the northern most point to embrace the elements at The But of Lewis. We took care not to go close to the edge for fear of being blown into the boiling water below.
After a warming lunch in Ness overlooking the beach, we headed back towards the mountains and to our new home on the island of Bernera.
This afternoon, the weather changed every few minutes from howling storm to blue skies, ending with a lovely sunset.

  • What a difference a day makes.

    March 30 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Today, we woke up to calm sunny weather. So we set off on a 13 km walk around the island.
We crossed the little bridge and walked along the coast and little lochs to Bosta beach.
There, we met some friendly coos, an old iron age house, and a beautiful beach.
We both had a serious wardrobe malfunction as it was seriously warm, necessitating the jettison of many garments.
It was much further than we thought.

  • Culture and Coos 🐮

    April 1 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Today, we had a day of culture. First to Na Geàrrannan where there is an old blackhouse village, then to the Calanais standing stones known to locals of old as 'The false men' there are quite a few stone circles in the area..... we didn't go to all of them.
We found some more lovely coos on the way back and some friendly sheep on the way to our local beech. We even put our toes in. 😬❄️

  • Life's a beach. 🌞

    April 2 in Scotland ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

Today, we explored Harris and drove as far south as you can go without taking another ferry.
There, we took some tiny remote roads to the Eastern inlets in search of seals...... alas, they were off on a field trip elsewhere.
After a coffee and a cake at the brewery, we meandered our way back up the West Coast to enjoy the many amazing white sandy beaches.

  • Uig Chessmen

    April 3 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

After a lovely early morning stroll out back, we headed to Cliff Beach for a walk up and around the peninsula.
It was such a wonderful walk. Even the sheep were friendly, they gathered and followed us back until the gate.
Lunch was in the community centre in Uig, then another glorious stroll on the beaches of Uig sands, then fabulous dinner in a posh restaurant overlooking the bay.

  • The smallest fish and chip shop.

    April 4 in Scotland ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

It was a bit of a mystery tour today. We had a mission to visit the smallest fish and chip in Scotland, AKA Mollans.
It was basically a shed at the back of the house next to the chickens, ducks, and cats. The fish was very good and well received as a takeaway lunch by the beach.
Yes, if course we did some walking around cliffs, coves and MORE beaches. 🏖
We did, however, sneek in a bit of culture in the form of a Norse mill and kiln. 🛖

  • Homeward bound.. 🙁

    April 6 in England ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

My idea of a lovely walk in the woods was quashed in favour of bashing our way back south to England in time for a walk at Knott End and tea back in Pilling.
Anyway, the scenery driving through Glencoe was amazing. ⛰️🏔🏞
(And I said 'hello' to the bench Debbie. 😊)
