For the first time, we flew Air Canada to get here. We started at 5 AM on Thursday, changed in Denver, then to Montreal and finally arrived in Paris early Friday morning. We had a few hours to wait in Paris for our train that would take us to Le Puy en Velay. We changed trains in St. Etienne, where we met Connie and Carolyn and Larry, who were coming off a train from Barcelona. So we ended up all arriving in Le Puy at the same time. What a beautiful town! Just under 19,000 people, Le Puy contains much more than one would think going by the population. We stayed the entire weekend so we could recover from jet lag, and have some time to soak in the cuteness of the town. On Saturday we went to the Cathedral of Notre Dame and checked out the Pilgrim welcome center. Then we walked 600 steps up to the church of Saint Michaels, which was built in 961 at the Apex of a volcanic spire. On Sunday, we took it very easy, just strolling around town to see the sites, preparing to start what is said to be a very difficult Camino on Monday.Read more

A lot of climbing today, we walked about 17 km and most of it uphill. It was very beautiful though, we enjoyed the views. It was our first day and we weren’t used to carrying our packs so it was a little rough.Read more

This was supposed to be a 12 km day, as usual it ended up being a couple of kilometers longer, at least for everyone else. I ran out of speed at about 8 km in, after all the climbing, and was able to get a ride for the remainder of the day’s walk from a woman who ran a snack bar out of her house. After that, I decided to have my bag transported, so it would be easier for me to keep with the group and not have to burden anyone else with my stuff.Read more

TravelerThanks, Nancy, I haven’t been very good about explaining any of my photos, I’m hoping to do it while we’re relaxing at Marlies and Ulli‘s house in Germany or maybe after we get home. The walking is hard sometimes, but it lets me know I can still do some things. But right now I’m thinking I won’t do another walk like this until after I get my left knee fixed, this time it’s been hurting a lot.

We just walked through this town and stopped to have lunch, it was on the way from Saint-Côme-d’Olt to Estaing. As we were entering town, we walked by the most amazing area with so many beautiful scenes to take pictures of.Read more
