Die erste Busfahrt mit dem Greyhound

Heute geht es los. Raus aus Sydney und auf in neue, spannende Gegenden.

Mit dem 30 Tage Ticket der führenden Nachtbuslinie kann ich zwischen Melbourne, im Süden und Cains, im Norden Australiens hin und her pendeln- so genannten „hop-on, hop-off“ Tourismus bestreiten.
Das Busticket liegt bei 415$, durch kurzes googeln hab ich einen 10% Rabattcoupon gefunden. So hab ich 374$ bezahlt.

Dass ich nach Melbourne fahre, war eine spontane Entscheidung und ist genau die entgegengesetzte Richtung zum ursprünglichen Ziel.
Zum Umpacken, denn im Süden ist es zu dieser Zeit deutlich kälter, und zur Ankunft an der Bushaltestelle hatte ich 2,5 Stunden.
Ein guter Freund beriet mich beim Packen und begleitete mich zur Bushaltestelle.
Zeitlich hat alles gut geklappt. Doch trotzdem sollte mich ein kurzer Schock ereilen.

Mein Handy reagierte nicht mehr auf die Berührungen es Displays. Kurze Panik und Hilflosigkeit überfiel mich, wo ich doch noch in Sydney und auf dem Weg in unbekannte Gefielde war, den gepackten Rucksack auf dem Rücken.
Wird alles scheitern? Soll ich ohne funktionierendes Handy losfahren? Oder in Sydney bleiben?Wird ein Neustart des Handys helfen oder mich ohne Backup (ärmer) zurücklassen?

Die Chancen stehen 50/50.
Daumen gedrückt, kurzes Gebet gesprochen und durch eine Tastenkombination startete ich das Handy neu.
Ich hatte Glück.
Doch die Lektion ward gelernt. Ich sollte zur Sicherheit wichtige Dokumente und Kontaktnummern außerhalb des Handys speichern, wo ich jetzt alleine reise.
Gesagt, getan.

Jetzt bin ich im Bus. Wo ich morgen schlafen werde, weiß ich noch nicht, dafür war keine Zeit aber die Sitze sind sehr gemütlich, die Menschen um mich herum sehr nett.

Today the real journey and life of a backpacker is starting for me. Im leaving Sydney for new, exciting adventures.

I bought a 30-day ticket of the leading night bus line, which makes me “hop-on, hop-off” between Melbourne, in the south and Cains, in the north of Australia back and forth the Eastcoast.
The bus ticket is at 415$, through short research I’ve found a 10% discount coupon. I paid $374.

Going to Melbourne was a super last minute decision and is exactly the opposite direction to the original destination.
To change the clothes in my backpack, because in the south it is much colder at that time of a year, and to arrive at the bus stop, I had 2. 5 hours.
A good friend advised me on packing and accompanied me to the bus stop. (Still I went straight to the wrong bus stop 😂)
My timing was good.
Nevertheless, the next big shock was just waiting around the corner.

My phone no longer respond to the touches the displays. A brief panic and the feeling of anxiety overcame me while I was still in a casual bus in Sydney, on my way to unknown territory. But without my phone?
Is the dream of solo-traveling going to fall apart? Should I leave without a working phone? Or stay in Sydney? Will restarting my phone help or leave me poorer and without backup?

The chances are 50/50.
A short prayer said and I’m restarted the phone.
I was lucky.
But I learned my lesson.
I need to keep important documents and contact numbers as a copy away from my phone, especially now, where I am traveling alone.
