    Saw a Klis Fortress, and went back for an afternoon at the beach. The Fortress was first built by Illyrian raiders, and was then turned into a Roman Fort when Augustus (Octavian at the time) got sick of being raided.

    Medieval renovations made it proper impenetrable. As proven when the Ottomans besieged it for 25 years and didn't get in. The Fortress finally fell when the Pope tried to send reinforcements to the Croats - but the landing was such a disaster that the Turks managed to capture and execute the now ex-lord of Klis who went out to meet the reinforcements, which convinced the rest of the defenders to give up.
