In the hall of greatness

Diocletian was a real stand unop guy. He was forced into Emperorhood by a bunch of senior officers who were worried that the next emperor would be killed in the upcoming civil war of succession. Instead, Diocletian won that war and ruled for 21 years. After that, he retired to live in a palace and farm cabbages. Unheard of in an empire who's leaders rarely died from natural causes.

His palace formed the centre of Split, and we had a great morning exploring it all. It's a shame what the Christians did with the place.
