    One Zeus to another…

    April 7, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

    Pants and cardies
    Tops and undies
Outfits i’ll need for the weeks
    But sadly,
    I can’t pack the dog

    Documents stowed
    The weight underload
    Handbag filled to the top
    But no,
    I can’t pack the dog.

    Everything managed to fit
    Passport ready, can’t forget it
Wondering what I’ll see and who I’ll meet
    If only
    I could pack the dog

  • Temple of Athena Sounio

    April 8, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

There was something so moving about this site. In lots of ways. No one was there, the gate was a little ajar and as you can see the place is unkempt.

Still stunning in its own way.

  • My life at ruins - Part One

    April 9, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

From Cape Sounion under the Temple of Poseidon
    To the Sanctuary of Demeter
    I ventured.
A symphony of ancient whispers from the rubble
Inspiring bad puns in the title

    Because really words are just…
    Not.

  • Between the Ruins

    April 9, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

There was one thing I forgot to pack - my iphone car charging cord. Google maps eats so much power.

So on the most beautiful drive on the freeway between Corinth and Olympia I had to stop at not one, not two but three petrol stations (like our big rest stops with big chain food stores attached).

Finally, at 3% I found one! The guy was amused to hear that I had left my cord in Australia.

The place had amazing views so I stopped for coffee and pics.

  • My Life at Ruins - Part Three

    April 9, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Every part of this place is beautiful in this bright spring weather.
Blossoms carpet the ground and smile from ancient rubble joins.
I loved the Temple of Hera.
I felt blessed to be a woman.
While the Temple of Zeus stood nearby
    Giant sized
    Sorry guys but
    You got nothin…

  • Olympia Museum - God Bods Abound

    April 9, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

    Amazing!
    Walking back in time
To so much tiny pottery and bronze work.
We think of Ancient times as lacking
And while I am happy standing here looking back
There is much more to it than that.

  • Stay in your lane. Or not.

    April 10, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

What a beautiful drive. Across the very stringy pointy yet impressive bridge and along the windy road to Delphi.

It was about 60kms all the way - if you obeyed the speed limit. The windyness made it a pleasant drive with bends that rivalled the drive to Bathurst. I was well trained for the road, even on the wrong right side.

Now to driving - the rules are speed limits are optional. Its like they are speed vague suggestions. Very vague. It doesn’t matter what lines there are or how much room, anyone can overtake anything anytime.

The cool thing as because this is expected (encouraged even!) everyone moves out of the way on both sides. At home cars fight it, are even resentful that you would dare try to go faster than them. Here you are the weirdo tourist n00b if you don’t.

Interesting to note almost every car is the size of a mazda 3 or the suzuki swift I am driving. Makes parking possible.

Today I did my first Greek style overtake. Sure enough the cars around me scooted to the flanks and I got through safely. Now I have done this once I will go back to being a weirdo tourist n00b, happily.

  • Back at the airport.

    April 11, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

About to meet one of the poetry retreat people at the airport before an early flight tomorrow.

Here is a picture of a bit of garden. Lol

This post closes my tour around lower Greece and Peloponnese…Just noticed my journey looks like an inverted pattern of the constellation Pleiades!

    Interesting.

  • A blustery day at a very old church.

    April 15, 2023 in Greece ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

    Today was beautiful!
We wrote at an old church that sat above the town. Still used by many, although only 6 people can fit inside. It is surrounded by wilderness, ruins and bees.

We had lunch together then some more writing. This time at the hotel as it was freezing outside. We had a fire and loads of warmth.

The group I am with is just lovely. 11 of us from America, Chile, New Zealand and Australia. A community of artists already.

This evening we visited the Greek Orthodox Church in town to celebrate the rising of Christ. There was a bonfire that can be seen from every part of the town. I was too in it to take photos.

So here is the church and some food.
