Arrived in Phuket!

Plane attempted to land twice in Phuket which freaked both myself and Matt out (having watched the recent documentary on the missing Malaysian airlines plane..).

Arrived at 8.30am into Phuket, Thailand and caught the bright orange Airport Transporter to Phuket town. Currently staying at Tee Dee Pak hotel which is very close to the Old town Phuket and around the corner from a delicious Hokkien noodle food stand. Went for a wander after having a bit of down time in the hotel. The old town is full of old colourful, colonial buildings. Being such a hot day (30+ degrees C) we had to come back to the hotel after a short while out in town. We did rehydrate with a coconut each though!Read more

Freedom beach

Patong beach (ok), Freedom beach (beautiful!)

Freedom beach accessed for free by the Lek Sand Beach Bar is amazing! Everywhere else charged 100 baht! From the bar we purchased two coconuts for 50 baht each and got an umbrella for hire free.

Patong was actually pretty cool at night

Most lively at night with lots happening down the main walking street.

Aussie bars, illegitimate massages (poor Matt), women pole dancing in bars visible from the street, flyers for muai Thai fights and ping pong (“fucking show”) shows, women dressed up for photo opportunities etc… Lights and music EVERYWHERE!

Worth the 450 baht tuktuk home 👌🏽Read more

Ko phi phi is beautiful!

Arrived in the afternoon but still managed to see a beautiful sunset and go for a snorkel at Long Beach! Two new bikinis bought for 700 baht (total)

Day 5
Maya Bay

Madness on arrival. So many boats waiting for the pontoon to dock and offload so that we could walk through to Maya bay. It is a national park so there is a 400baht entrance fee.

On arrival there were hoards of people so near impossible to get a photo of the beautiful bay and clear waters. No swimming or snorkelling allowed from the beach but this was allowed further out in the bay. It started to die down while we were there and everyone had cleared out by 5 pm.

We reloaded onto the boat and went out to the side where you could snorkel and that was pretty cool I must say. Lots of fish and even more fish when I picked up a watermelon scrap and started scratching it up into tiny pieces.

Went on to see the sunset then the luminescent plankton at night. Snorkelling in the dark is scary but the plankton were pretty damn cool! They were everywhere and when you moved your limbs they would glow!Read more

Nightlife in Phi Phi

Crazy! One small island and a huge nightlife.

Went from discovering a whole other alleyway with actual non-tourist Thai food to a beach with a fire show (jump rope, limbo, cigarette lighting … all with fire!). (@slinkybar&hostel)
We saw bull riding, a giant penis (penis riding?) and amateur fighting all in the space of a few hours. (@reggaebar)Read more

Arrived in Ao Nang from Phi Phi by “speed ferry” in an hour. Smooth sailing and super easy getting to the resort. Pity we’re only staying one night here!

Went for a massage before check in then ate our way through the town before heading back for a swim. Lazy pool day followed by an evening of food: bbq skewers (YUM!), papaya crab salad (average), basil rice (yum!), durian ice cream (so-so), deep fried ice cream (yum!). We chilled on bean bags afterward with a drink and some brilliant live music on one of the busy main streets.Read more
