• KoYao Island Day 3 - Island Tour Part 3

    11 gennaio 2024, Tailandia ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

The last leg of our tour included one last cave, a sunset and then the super anticipated bioluminescence experience.

More details on what bioluminescence is here:

One. Last. Cave. If you watched the movie, Thirteen Lives, get ready for a video that may gave you the same feel. I’ll be honest, and tell you the truth because I don’t want to lie (😂 - LT “Dan”) those movie scenes started to swirl in my mind as we proceeded. I made it clear to M and Alex that if we got stuck they have my permission to drug me to swim me out. No waivers needed, just dope me up, no questions asked. Approved.

The time spent in movie land was short lived as once again we exited the cave to another untouched paradise. But there was something in this paradise that I didn’t expect. Walking fish… yep. Fish that actually “walk” with the tiniest of arms. They wait for the tide to go out, come out of their mud and then walk. When the tide starts to come back in, they must get back to their mud-hole asap. If they miss their window of opportunity, Alex said they will wait on rocks and mangrove trees until the tide goes back out. Similar to the humans that miss the boat and get stuck in a lagoon… a sit and wait game.

After surviving the sequel to Thirteen Lives, our jet boat sailed off to enjoy a sunset only a God can be responsible for. Alex brought us a bottle of bubbly for our honeymoon, so I enjoyed a glass and M had a Red Bull to get him fired up for this last part… bioluminescence.

Now that I hyped up this part of it… I’m bummed to report the videos and pics didn’t turn out. 😢 I’m not sure how CC got his videos to come out but once we killed the lights, our videos didn’t show what we experienced. Bummer!!

But let me tell you… these plankton light up like a Griswald Christmas tree. Promise. Alex said they can be white, blue or green. Ours were white!

After about 15-20 minutes in awe, it was time to load up and head back to the pier.

A quick pic with Alex and then jumped aboard the island Taxi back to the hotel (again, not the V-town).
