• Day 3 Part II: Galle to Dikwella

    October 28, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ 🌬 29 °C

All packed and off for our next stop … Dikwella (still think it’s missing a “c” but …).

We left a bit later than we hoped with plans to stop at:

    - Stick Fisherman
    - Coconut Tree Hill
    - Parrot Island

… before arriving in Dikwella. Unfortunately we missed two of the three but threw in a stop that was a value-add. 🤩

Stick Fisherman were done for the day by the time we cruised through (but we got a pic driving by of all their sticks), and ChatGPT steered us wrong by saying that Parrot Island was after Coconut Tree Hill, so we zoomed right passed it at 40kpm without even realizing it. But once we did … we were so hot, sticky and ready to be at our hotel… we will decided to mark that as a miss.

Coconut Tree Hill was a beautiful view! Got there just before the tour bus of Euros arrived so 🙌🏼 ! Ended that stop with cool refreshments and another beautiful view. We couldn’t stay for the sunset as driving at night in Winston is something we would like to avoid if at all possible. Not a level Mike needs to pass again, if we can help it.

We also stopped along the side of the road for a coconut beverage, where we envied the beautiful private villa surrounded by the crystal clear water - villa was named Tabrobane (Ancient Greek name for Sri Lanka). Makes me think of Emerald Bay and the tea house … right? This villa is privately owned and sounds like it can be rented out from $1,000/night up to $2,200/night for the entire villa. It’s a beauty!

We’ve noticed as we have continued to travel further south, the waters are growing more blue by the kilometer. And Mike affirms the routes are more like he envisioned on a Tuk Tuk.

I posted some more videos of our travels in Winston and traffic … they don’t do it justice of Mike’s abilities and true patience with navigating! He is a master! So impressed.

We arrived at Smeralda Beach Resort a bit after 5, and were greeted by the husband and wife who own the joint. Lovely surprise! He’s from Italy and she’s from Moscow but lived in Italy (how they met).

Once settled in the beauty of a room Mike snagged us with theee best view … shower and dinner time. The owners (husband and wife) also own an Italian place down the way so we walked down for some a pizza and a sushi roll. I’ll let you guess who ordered what. 😉

Met Tico the resident pup that made dinner feel more like home with his choice of seat. Tico got a slice of pizza pie (which P and Ms. Marley aren’t so lucky to enjoy). Tico! Good boy!

Side Note: So far we haven’t met a local who has given us high fives for our Winston tour. All have replied with a face of 😳, and in one way or another called Mike “brave” in which Mike responds “Or stupid”. Hahahaha!

Time to call it a day. Mike and I are looking forward to letting Winston rest up the next few days as we explore all Dikwella has to offer.

    Hugs! M&A
