• Day 4 - Dikwella

    October 29, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

Mike and I did some math and crazy enough … we are already 1/3rd through our tour of Sri Lanka. Wild!

Today’s activities did not include Winston but they did include …

    - Turtle Beach (monkey included)
    - Lounge lizards (aka M&A on lounges)
    - The Massage Shed
    - Smoke & Bitters

Turtle Point was a perfect beach walk down the way; down our beach … through another hotel … down at the end of another beach. The goal here was to swim/snorkel with turtles but we failed to pack the snorkels and didn’t feel like using any hanging randomly from a stick so we watched from the shore. The giant turtles were so close you could see them so it worked.

At the actual point… the waves put on a show, as they forcefully hit the rocks with a Vegas-like finish. We tried to capture but no luck … gave it a good ol’ fashioned try though! As we walked closer to the rocks, little waterfalls were many, providing a constant flow of water down the rocks, like Plinko.

At lunch, we snagged words of wisdom from my Lion lager, while Mike had a beautiful poke bowl. The visit from a resident monkey was also a treat. Check out his/her tail! Remind any one of someone we know? 🐶

Mike brought his drone along so on the trip back, we stopped for some aerial footage before continuing to meet a fella that just caught an octopus with a spear! His name escapes me but let’s call him Toro because why not.

Toro was so excited about his catch that he pulled the Octo out of his bag to show us. Naturally I then asked for a picture. Then … not sure why … but he knelt down next to Mike for a pic with Mike! (please make note of Mike’s face and that this guy actually hugged one of Mike’s LL’s 😂) The whole thing was awkward but Mike handled it well.

P.S. Saw a Ms. Marley pup playing in the water! Made me miss her a bit. But just a bit!!!!!

Back at the hotel… we lounged on a cabana for a few hours and dipped into the pool before showering and heading to Hiriketiya (surf/beach town down the way) for massage and dinner.

The one task Mike entrusted me with was to schedule us a massage. Place? The Massage Shed. The massages were cheap but reviews were good so I went for it. #2 on TripAdvisor after all! In short … my massage was excellent. However, Mikes not so much. Nuts!

All slicked up and ready for dinner, we walked a short way to Smoke & Bitters for dinner. I’m not much of a foodie, we all know that. Grill up beef and give me any variation of a potato and I’m one happy lass. But Mike loves flavor and sauces! He is an amazing cook and has tried many foods around the world. So for him to say the flavors of this food were nothing he’s ever tasted before, says a lot.

Dessert was a delightful trifecta of vanilla ice cream, chocolate, toffee cookie delight. And the big WIN for the night? Sippin’ on Gin ‘n Juice - one of their signature drinks. I’m not a gin drinker but had to order because I LOVE S-n-double o-p. A pleasant suuuuprise!

    Dinner was a 10/10, from food/drink —> ambience —> service.

Another full day taking in all Sri Lanka has offered to us and we happily accepted it.

Tomorrow another day in Dikwellla (the “c” is silent)! Stay tuned!

    Hugs! M&A
